The medical reports must be good on Dumo and Marino. Probably the best news of this deadline.

I don’t know why there was a two year hiatus in proper roster construction, but at least we are back to logical moves to improve team speed and skill.

saw shearys wife and spoke with her for a second heading into the arena yesterday before the jets game. seemed a little nervous about the deadline . not sure if he met her here or shes a pittsburg girl but wish them well. my grandson had the pleasure of skating and playing some puck with him and jeff skinner at a sabres/buffalo warriors function class act in my book!

Absolutely, they won it by a landslide IMO.

As far as the Metro goes I’d probably rank the deadline teams as

1. Carolina (Trochek, Skjei, and Vatanen is a pretty insane haul of good players regardless of what they paid and I think it was all pretty fair)

2A. Pens (Marleau and Kovalchuk are probably washes with an edge to Kovi and the Zucker trade outweighs Dillon and the unforced error of the Kahun trade IMO)

2B. Caps (they made good moves and weren’t as desperate to add pieces as the Pens to begin with. Argument can be made they had every bit as good a deadline as Pitt.)

4. Rangers (The decision to not trade Kreider and ink him to that contract will be good. If anything he’s appreciated in value if they want to revisit a trade later on. Skjei for a first is solid for a rebuilding team)

5. Jersey (solid return for an injured player and getting anything for the corpse of Simmonds is a ok)

6. Islanders (overpaid for an impact player, but got an impact player nonetheless. The contract they gave him is probably suspect, but oh well. They’ll be happy that Parise trade didn’t go through as time moves on)

7. Flyers and CBus tied. Columbus did nothing and the Flyers May as well have done nothing.

I'm not a big fan of Skjei and think a first is too much, but overall Carolina had the best day right?

Basically I think Rutherford's hand was forced with Kahun. He was in a situation where he did not think he would be able to match any offers this offseason so essentially Kahun was a de facto UFA. If Kahun was not injured he might have let him at least play out the season but because he was injured, he traded him to a team who probably can resign him for a somewhat reliable winger who worked well for the team at times in the past.

When was the last time someone was successfully offersheeted? The more I read about it the less I hate the trade but this seems like a lame excuse given that he was an RFA.

Can we possibly glean some insight into Guentzel's progress from this deal??

Either he's more likely back for playoffs and the front office doesn't see Kahun as fitting on the 3rd line with Bjugstad back

Or

Guentzel is out long term and getting 2 players for 1 is better depth for this playoff run

So we traded Olli Maatta for Sheary and Rodrigues? No too shabby.

JR said we have 9 NHL ready D men.

Said he like how POJ is coming along and he's pleased with Dumo's and Marino's progress

Ha ha....No. I have visions of seeing Sheary worm his way back to the 1st line. I'm no fan of Simon on the 1st line, but it makes my skin crawl thinking of Conner Sheary getting knocked off the puck like a child again. Simon at least stays on his skates.

Furthermore, I thought we kind of fleeced Chicago with Kahun. I think he's pretty talented. Terrible deal.

I like the Marleau deal though.

Alternatively, we traded Maatta and Kahun for Rodrigues and a Hunwick dump.

You could of had them for a half eaten box of chocolates. E-Rod actually requested a trade earlier this season, that dude should be happy to wear a NHL jersey...

His wife is Mike Sullivan's niece. You can google if you want. Both Sheary and his wife are from Boston.

No, it would be Maatta and Kahun for Kahun, Rodrigues, and a Hunwick dump.

Not sure how much playing time he will get here. Although we are currently pounding square pegs into round holes.

I noticed his ES numbers are adequate, with the exception of his GF/GA.
(10 for, 18 against.) Sullivan wants guys who pay attention to defense. Does this guy play defense? Are his numbers bad due to luck? Doesn't really sound like it though.

This also isn’t as bad of a move on paper as that trade was.

Yep. Most rangers fans probably all wanted to give him away. Was great his rookie year, but has played like a bottom pair ever since.

He is a typical 4th plug. Plays 1 out of 10 games "Well" then the other 9 looks like the undrafted player that he was.
