No disrespect to Coach AV, but...

With all of the recent years' goalie difficulties, why would you try to force a situation where the 2 goalies are placed into an "starter" and "back-up" category when the current 1-A (home) / 1-B (away) construction has been working quite well for 2/3 of the season?

Sure, in a perfect world heading into stretch drive and (hopefully) playoffs the standard "starter" / "backup" may be more beneficial, but geez...stick with what got you there is my belief and work on the "away" issues during the off-season / camp.

No reason to not spot start Hart in the away games. Of the 9 games I give Hart around 4 of the starts and see how he fairs.

Risky IMHO. With Hart currently at a road record of 3-10-1, 3.88 GAA, .855 SV%, you are potentially missing out on 4 - 6 points on those suggested 4 road starts if he can't figure it out. That could be a very impactful 4 - 6 points with the Metro standings as they are right now.

He was fine on his last road game. As Bill stated the team in general didn’t play well on the road at the start of the season as well as their west coast trip.
If he plays terrible in his first road game then re evaluate who starts when.

I would concentrate more on a balance of getting Hart more starts of the two but maintain enough rest, not worrying one iota about Home vs Away. He has got this and in general, the team needs to continue it’s improved play on the road especially special teams. Hart might even end up with 5 or 6 road starts.

So you're suggesting the Flyers go with a platoon situation in goal for the playoffs?

How exactly do you work on the away issues during the off season?

This isn’t just a goalie road problem. It’s a team problem.

If Hart is going to be The Guy for the playoffs, then from here on in, Elliott should only be starting in back to back situations and perhaps the final game vs Buffalo if they aren’t playing for home ice or to get in.

I’d be ok with that. Most goalies need more work to get in a groove. I’ve been happy with how the goaltending has been handled this year.

Despite what some say, I’ve been happy with moose’s play and how they’ve handled Hart as well. He’s growing.

Hello Bill,

I hope you see this. Since you are associated with the team and the alumni association, you may be able to start a movement.

As mentioned from time to time by some of us old-timers, some time after 2000, some fans began doing the "Let's Go Flyers" chant to the "Let's Go Rangers" cadence.

For some reason, this really bothers me and I cringe and get mildly angry when I hear it. It is particularly annoying to hear since the organist and the prerecorded stuff try to get things going using the correct cadence.

My suggestion is to have several generations of the alumni put together an "instructional" video of how to do the chant. It could be interspersed with clips from games where the chant was really loud (Game 6 of the 87 or 74 finals come to mind) and old Biff from BTF II telling young Biff, "You sound stupid when you say it wrong."

I had to get that off my chest. Particularly before a game against the Rangers.

BTW, does the "Die Ranger, Die" guy in the upper bowl still go to games?

This struck me this morning: Based on how these next 19 games go, does anyone think it's possible AV could get some Jack Adams votes?

Absolutely, and deservedly so.
The coach who usually wins the award is a coach that improves a team significantly from the year before. Right now, how many teams are ahead of the Flyers who were projected to be below them when the season started? Not many.

I'd say right now the top 3 would probably be AV, Bednar, Brindy.

Pens on 4 game losing streak. Pens have 1 game in hand with a 1 point lead. Passing them is becoming possible.

This was my thinking too. I tried to think around the whole league of other coaches who would get votes, and AV is deserving of top 3 with how he's improved our team. The top 5 that came to mind were AV, Bednar, Brindy, Sullivan and Cassidy.

Yup. Agreed. Maybe Tortorella as well.

The Stars have had a heck of a season after losing 7 of their first 8 games, but with Bowness taking over mid-season I don't think he can be considered. Same situation in Vegas as well.

The amount of coaches that got fired this season made the process of elimination easy when thinking the top 5

Hi Bill,

I loved reading about Blake's upcoming Make-a-Wish. My nephew had a similar Make-a-Wish granted a few years ago when he was flown to Vancouver to practice with the Canucks. They treated him like one of their own (particularly the Sedins, Kesler, Miller, and Willie Desjardins), and it did a lot for his confidence. Kids living with serious health issues tend to go through a lot bad times, and these Make-a-Wish trips provide them and their families with so much joy. Much respect to the Flyers for going all the way in treating Blake like one of their own, and to you for the write-up about it. Things like this really demonstrate how great the NHL and it's players are. All the best to Blake on his trip to Philly and in his battle with cancer.

Currently our home ice is a graveyard....the team and Comcast overlords are making strides to get more people in the seats. Hopefully if the boys can keep it up and make the playoffs more people will come and cheer the team!

Do you really think pulling some esoteric poop like that is really helpful for the game experience at the Wells Fargo center? I understand the whole “good ole’ days” concept about this team...they haven’t won a cup in like 50 years....but let’s all just get together and support the boys, in ANY way that doesn’t include sitting and staring at your cell phone.
