Thanks Todd! I think they could resign him, the attraction is mutual. The question is, should they resign him. Palms turns 30 next year and he is looking for term just as much as money. If its a team friendly deal, than sure. If its market price or more longer term than I would pass on an aging winger. The season after next I hope some of the drafted players start pushing for #1RW.

I wouldn't mind the team giving Palms a long-term (max) contract as a reward for his service. What's his contract going to look like, 7-8 years for $6-7.5 a year at a team-friendly discount with a no-movement clause?

He's probably got 3-4 more of good years. By years 5-8 Subban's contract is off the books so this will probably be the worst contract on the team. I still think he can contribute as a bottom 6 forward at the tail end of his career.

He'll be a good role model for the kids that are coming up.

I'd rather go six years and pay a premium for the shorter term; but regardless K-Palms is the exactly the type of player you want to keep in the organization.

Gotta keep him. He's not that old. Him and Gusev can be some of the "older" guys to compliment literally every single other player. You can have 2 players over 28-35 on a Cup-winning roster. Keeping Palmieri and Gusev I think is important to building our team for the next several years. If we hit a homer with our 1st round picks this year, we should be looking good with those picks + Hughes, Nico, Bratt, Palmieri, Gusev, Blackwood, and whatever other prospects emerge as 60+pt talents. I think next year we'll really see where our needs are moving forward and I think summer 2021 we may go for some more substantial UFA signings or trade a forward and/or pick for a dman.

That would be cool if it could be worked out. It's a little complicated and potentially awkward since you'd be making someone your Captain one year and then not re-signing him the next year; but if we knew he was going to retire (for example) then it could work out.

I'd love to see Zajac wear the C in what will potentially be his final season. But yes, Palms is a great candidate. Easily the most consistent player on this club over the past couple seasons. Just imagine our RW without him!!!!!! The guy is a steal, and my hope is we extend him this off season for a few more years, otherwise, we are going to receive another fantastic deadline haul. Palms is a true professional that will greatly benefit the young talent coming up.
