Believe 3 teams (FLA, NJ) so far with the Canucks carrying the heaviest burden. However, other teams are in jeopardy as well. Again, its something the team can propose as a stimulus measure. The NHL will be looking to aid recovery not hamper it. They have made moves in the past to help individual teams its still within the realm of possibility. Which is where we are talking speculatively. As such your speculative denial is fair but not absolute.

The stimulus measures are not cash hand outs per say but improvement to product that helps generate more revenue to improve the bottom line. Again these stimulus measures are not about punishing GM's for past mistakes. The focus is on recovery to generate revenue. Freeing teams up to be competitive and excite fans to buy in helps that.

Wrong. The Canucks are the only team paying recapture.
Edit; I believe Florida is paying a tiny portion of Luongo's recapture. Couldn't find anything about New Jersey.

No and stop trying to be so dramatic. You clearly miss acting class.

This is correct. I’d say NJ should have had a penalty for kovalchuk. Imagine the wild could get out from under Parise? I can’t see how this type of buyout wouldn’t allow for both teams and UFA’s to go back to closer to business as usual.

Should have been more, but yes that is the case they have a penelty for around 1/4 of the league minimum contract ie/not really any recapture.

If, for example, Canucks were able to re-sign marky, tanev and toffoli. You don’t think more people would go to games than if they were unable to sign those guys? Or of Calgary could afford to sign Hall might be an even bigger example
- neem55

No. I think that fans will come (or not...) if they sign Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli or not. Because if they don't sign those guys, they will sign other guys. It's Petterson, Hughes, Horvat, Boeser that are filling seats.

Someone will sign Taylor Hall, compliance buyouts won't matter.

As Vantel has said many times (I agree), arenas are not going to be full the next time the NHL plays a game. That kind of social interaction is going to take time to build back to

I think compliance buyout is not too much different than Canada's Emergency Fund. Sorry I hate mixing politics in here . This is an unusual circumstance that threw everyone for a loop. It will help now but you better get your sh1t together because it won't be there in the future.
- VANTEL

Yeah, I don't think they are remotely similar. Compliance buyouts are a luxury for teams who made bad decisions. Canada's bailout is an effort to keep people safe, in their homes until the economy has an opportunity to get going again.

You have said, on too many occasions, that the cap isn't a problem. I agree, teams will be compliant on day one of the season. How they get there? It might mean the faces change more (or less) than fans would like.

Yup. I think and penalty higher in addition would have been much more fitting for getting out from a massive long contract like that. Im sure many teams would take that deal to get out of their megacontracts. The wild and the habs... give florida a year or two on bobs

Because there was very little "cap" savings at the beginning of the contract, and he retired so early on a 12 year contract, the recapture was very small, over a long time.

Webber is going to be the big one. I'm sure he will experience a career ending "injury", thus sparing the Habs/Preds any recapture...

They were penalized by the NHL for trying to sign a 17 year contract (or something like that, I forget the exact details). The recapture is because Kovy retired only a few years in, and the team had benefited (marginally) the first few years.

It does seem like giving them an out problematizes the recapture penelties put there
