Jack Skille in a nutshell:

Takes puck at own blue line.
Races up the right wing board.
Blows by everyone creating an unlikely odd man rush.
Rips a shot high and wide.
Puck caroms back to center ice resulting in an odd man break the other way.

Rinse, repeat.

Sounds like Caufield.

Makarov was a huge prospect who certainly would emerge. He looked like the best skill kid on the ice if the game was rat hockey at he local rink. Actually it was intra squad out at the Bensenville rink. Later Sassoon and The Hockey News published their top ten Blackhawk list and Makarov has turned into an energy player. He fled the AHL for Russia and has never had any semblance of a top line scoring season in the KHL.

Keep your fingers crossed Darth Kane that your guy.doesn't commit a Skille or a Makarov act.I think not.

Nice and good that much of the national media - print, television - recognized his death AND his life and accomplishments.

A lot of praise for a musician who never recorded a chart hit song, and had only one (“Angel from Montgomery” by Bonnie Raitt) recorded by someone else.

But he certainly had the praise from his contemporary land current musicians.

Some other names back in the Skille days. Brouwer and Skilled huddling and concerned that they were the next great to prospects. Brouwer had the good shot from the slot. Displayed it in the AHL Big power wing we had hoped for.

Intra squad rookies camp: Lalonde and Leddy manning point on pp. Hey this Pacan looks like he might be good. Has size. Look at this Kreuger. Did Bowman find him or some scout tip off Bowman about this kid ? Back then I was asking, was it Dudley that tipped off Tallon about Versteeg, and then Tallonscouted him? Versteeg was a slick skill guy in the AHL.

Olsen has to make sure he has gap control, wiz said while we were watching in one camp. Hey that Holl skates well.

The "B" first letter last name of so many prospects.Bickel, Bolland, Brouwer of course progressed. But it took Bickel many years to stick in the NHL.

Kyle Beach would be a good one for the next write-up.

If we could just skip right over Mr. Beach and his brilliant career.....

Dale was able to follow Skille with Toews & Kane as his next 2 #1 picks, so 67% HOFers is pretty solid.

Suggestion for next, the Hawk's #1 pick after 19 & 88, Kyle Beach.

- scottak

If you are going to invoke that logic, you then have to include;

Kyle Beach
Dylan Olsen

So; Skille, Toews, Kane, Beach, Olsen

Really its 40% and 4 out of the 5 were very high picks.

Just very average at best I'd say, but don't want to ruin the narrative.

Without looking it up, I'm going to guess there aren't many GMs that have drafted 2 1st ballot HOFers out of 5 consecutive 1st rounds.

Heck, I'd guess there are entire drafts that don't produce 2 HOFers.

Note to self: research project, # of HOFers per NHL draft.

Wiz, can you think of a draft class with more than 4 that made the HOF as players?

Highest I've come up with so far is 4 in 1983: Yzerman, Neely, Fetisov & Hasek

Thanks Ogi, real nice. I thought I was upset until I heard Lin Brehmer.
I am a sox fan but even I was busted up about Steve Goodman when he passed. Balls out Cubs fan dies just before they made the playoffs for the first time in almost forever. Those two guys will be missed in a big way.

1979, 6 Messier, Anderson, Carbonneau, Bourque, Gartner, Goulet. Hawks took Keith Brown that year.

KHL post states that Max Shalunov has been (or at least may have been) offered a contract by an NHL team. I'm assuming that since he is listed as a Chicago prospect that the Hawks are the only ones at this point that could offer him a contract?

If true, Scott Powers is going to have about 7 articles on the guy before he even laces up his skates. It will be interesting to see if/how he fits into the lineup.

I hope everyone is healthy and safe, and making ends meat during a surreal, unprecedented time.

Last few weeks I caught myself rewatching the 2010 cup run games aired on comcast.

gm 5 vs Nashville
gm 6 vs Nashville
gm 2 vs Vancouver
gm 3 vs San Jose

All were the 1st time I have rewatched the entire game either from being in attendance OR from pacing around my family room during that ridiculous PK parade in game 6 vs Nash.....

Each of those teams that won a cup, and even 2014, were beyond special.....but 2010 team with that swagger, up against it with impending cap hell, and just refusing to lose...….just is a joy to rewatch a decade later.

2 guys who have routinely stood out game after game.....

Bolland….I hated his deal and I always joked when that thing showed up in a fed ex box back in the summer of 2009 he probably signed that thing and drove it back to be sent out. However, truly clutch play in the games you watch from that run......and just seeing all the crap you miss the 1st time of him egging on the Sedins or Thornton is a riot.

Versteeg…..this one should be stapled to Jay Zawaski's forward. All you ever hear is what a defensive liability Versteeg was and there he was killing off huge PKs late in games, creating, and scoring clutch goals.....IF Nylander can ever become a POOR MAN's version of Versteeg Hawks will be a lot better off.

Sadly it's time for the NHL to call it a day and move on towards 2020-21....playing in an isolated North Dakota or remote Canada isn't what playoff hockey is about. Its about the intensity generated by the fans that make it the best sporting event in sports. You can't top NHL playoffs.

Do your exit interviews and figure out a way to make the draft a can't miss event for the fans.

The counter argument again to this and it could have been Trent Yawney as a GM.....as the resources Wirtz sunk into the team AFTER the old man passed away. Go back and watch the Vancouver game 2 and Foley shows the ENTIRE scouting department that is leaps and bounds in numbers exceeding what it was under WWW. That;s the advantage and that infrastructure has paid off in the way they landed key European players....including Niemi

that is something Bowman SR brought over from the Redwings playbook.

Dale also was a little too transparent for McDonough's liking....and did it to himself by not falling in line.

Again, as I posted month ago......Hawks don't win in 2010 or 2015 or anything in between without Bowman and Dale. Neither is better then the other and both should be remembered when this thing turns the page to a new regime.

So many misses. Ty Jones, Anton Babchuk, Dan Cleary never made it here. EDIT: I mean he never was an accomplished player for the Blackhawks.

Lots of bad or weak drafts in 1990's.

Ethan Moreau worked out well (1980's). Adam Bennett, E Sanipass. How about Bruce Cassidy, current Bruins head coach.

Good pick Jeremy Roenick

Versteeg was always a whipping boy. When healthy you could pencil him for 45 points a year. Guys average .5PPG but in a lot of cases it is due to one outlier year. Versteeg did it ever year. He was pretty damn good defensively in 2010 in the game I have watched recently.

First game of the ‘84 playoffs against San Diego - Jimmy Buffet did the National Anthem. He was a good friend of Steve Goodman.

And the Lincoln Park Pirates go on....

I stopped by the Hawks section on HF boards for poops and giggles. There was a thread titled “If the Hawks get 2 buyouts who would you pick?” or something along those lines.

So I jokingly commented “Kane and Toews”....and then the mods quickly deleted the post and banned me from making any further replies. 😂😂😂

Must be Eli running the show over there...
