He is useful when he is in the lineup as a forward, if a defenseman gets hurt he can slot right in without screwing up the pairings. His salary is a tad too high though. Be nice if we could trade him. Hate the buyouts. Eventually half the teams cap is going to be dead if they keep buying players out

I agree with yours and Brooks' assessments, with one caveat... I cringed each time I read Brooks talk about "value" and I'd put a number of about $1.5M to your "tad too high" on his contract.
I thought Smith did everything asked of him just fine this season, but that doesn't mean his contract is any less of a burden for what you'd want to spend on his position in the line up.

Yup. I would love to be able to pay him like a 4th liner, he would be a bargain.

The question is do you buy him out? If no amnesty buyout, is Smith the one you that has the compliance buyout? What if there is an amnesty buyout and let's say it's Hank, do you still buy him out?

I don't see how they would be able to keep Georgiev, so it's not a perfect solution. But, I would like to see no more buyouts. One more tough year in that regard and then we are almost free of dead cap space.

If there is a compliance buyout, can it be utilized to remove Shatty's $6 mill hit off our books this coming season? Does it work that way, or only on existing, active contracts?

No clarity yet. We don't know if there will be a compliance buyout, all this is speculation. One possibility is that a dead cap hit on the books may be able to be wiped out similar to if you bought someone out. But all this is up in the air right now.

I'd rather wipe out the dead cap and buy no one out.
Hank has to see the writing on the wall, you would think he doesn't want to be a 3rd string goalie next year.
I did a scorpion back in HS rode a wave all the way in and thought I was in more water than I was. The board hit the sand and I folded in two. - mdw7413
You should go try your luck at the Wedge in Newport Beach. People literally go just to get the poop kicked out of them

Thank god you had JRR's tits to hold onto for floatation.
so you either drown or get your head taken off by someone else? Looks awesome though - Mtlca66
It's literally just a giant closeout wave. When the swell is coming from the right direction the first wave bounces off that big jetty and comes back and hits the second wave and jacks up into one big franken-wave, which is where that triangle-y peak comes from.
I loved surfing in the fall here. Offshore hurricanes and no tourists. - mdw7413
Yup, September surfing was the best. Cool air, warm water, plenty of waves.
I tried surfing last year when we were down in Costa Rica and it really put it into perspective what an out of shape fat (frank) I am now compared to high school.

Yeah. I give credit to the guys in their 40's and older who are still going strong.
