Tyler Cameron: The Hawks to play the Oilers… maybe I have been relatively quiet on this front since the season was shut down as I awaited some sort of news or direction but this persistent virus has kept us all in limbo.

Well, there has appeared to be some progress by the NHL and NHLPA who have agreed on a 24-team format when the season resumes.

Chicago looked good in an up tempo fast game. Lots of action back and forth. Edmonton added even more speed at the trade deadline but Chicago was not going to be outskated.

What stood out was that two rookies- Carlsson and Beaudin - were able to transition the puck movement and so we just traded chances most of the game. Edmonton was getting better opportunities in the third but we were ahead. We hung tough. I saw Tippet behind the Edm bench and I am guessing that he was sort of pissed off. He probably thought his squad would outskate us. And we had three younh dmen in the line up! Although I cannot be certain if Boqvist was out injured - still two newbie rookies played well on our defense

Edmonton has to be matched or contain their speed game. McDavid has not scored or been as big a force against us this season as compared to McDavid vs the rest of the league.

There is your scouting report but Tyler is heads up when he mentioned youth may be served if youth is in better shape than veterans. Oh BTW that Yakamoto kid is the real deal. Very dangerous against us. They were missing Neal btw.

Yeah, our third line center has shut down McDavid this year, man Toews is so overrated.

Tyler, thanks for all you do, I really appreciate how you keep this site going through all the crap we are dealing with, and yet you keep coming up with new material.

Thanks for great work Tyler and here’s to 400 more blog (at least).

If games are likely played in empty arenas I’ll be interested to see how the owners plan to make money. I doubt the owners will want to risk their assets and not make up the lost revenue. There has to be something in this for the owners.

In all likelihood, yes. But I, guessing there will be more sources of revenue too.

It should be interesting to see how the pricing works out. By game? By team? Entire playoffs? How will the existing TV deals be impacted?

It wouldn’t surprise me. That could be a temporary move that turns permanent.

Congrats Tyler on 400 .2020 will go down as one weird year ,and the NHL season will be no exception .I would be just as happy if they had called it a day awhile back ,and put their effort into trying to get next season stated as best they can . Bettman and his Goon Daley have striped away a lot of the integrity left in this great game ,so why stop now .

Interesting perspective that teams with younger players may benefit. Perhaps. I was thinking that experience may be beneficial, especially if the Hawks old horses are healthy and more rested than they otherwise would have been. What if Toews and Keith could find their peak games for two months?

Tyler,

Congratulations on your 400th blog. I can't believe you've been at this since November, 2017. It hasn't seemed that long.

You're also doing a great job coming up with content during the season "pause". The subject matter will be much easier to come up with as the games resume.

They very well could try to Pay Per View, but does that conflict with contracts already set in place? I would think so, but honestly have no clue how that works.

Look, we’re all hungry to watch sports, even if some of us fundamentally disagree with starting up this soon. Regardless if you do, you gotta admit you’ve got the itch. I’m doing my best to be safe, but I damn well know I’m scratching away like Tyrone Biggums for some playoff puck.

So, while we know that the NHL already has the Canadian audience, this might be the time for the casual American fan to warm to the game. Maybe don’t look at this as a possible PPV event, and instead think of this as an investment. This is the perfect time to grab the attention of sports fans who just never gave hockey a real try.

Everyone at HockeyBuzz knows that the Stanley Cup Playoffs are the best post season in North American sports, if not the world. Time to open some eyes, since they’ll likely all be on you anyways.

Hey Tyler! Congratulations on number 400 and thanks for all the blogs and conversation especially with the absence of hockey.

As much as I'd like to see some playoff hockey, I'm interested to see how they determine draft status.

Yes! I should have included this line in the blog.

Selfishly, I should be advocating for a return to play, but I still just worry about the "eagerness" of it all.

Looks like we'll hear about phase 2 today:

@PierreVLeBrun
NHL/NHLPA sent out 29-page Phase 2 protocol (opening of practice facilities/small group workouts) to teams and players late last night. Will be released publicly today as well.

I doubt they would go with pay per view for this reason. If hockey can be first sport back (sorry NASCAR and PGA), it could mean huge viewing numbers. This could mean millions of potential new fans. If that carries on to next year, the NHL could get a big boost in TV revenue. If they go with PPV, they will lose the casual fan, and numbers will go down.

Long term that would be really really really dumb by the league, in a time of crisis, this would be a marketing disaster
