Someone who has an opinion on something is an idiot because you don't understand it?

I agree it will be ridiculous to say anything about an asterisk, but if the pandemic has proven one thing, it's that people are ridiculous.

It should probably have an asterisk because of the 24 teams vs 16. Unless this will be the format going forward. Doesn't the asterisk signify an altered state or something like that?

In 7 to 14 days from this great Holiday we just enjoyed, we’ll see what the verdict is on the Pandemic spread.

Playoff formats have changed several times over the years. I think people that are saying the cup winner should have an asterisk is because of the shortened season and I guess the overall complexity of what's occured during the season. Kind of like the '12-'13 season that was shortened due to a lockout. Some will tell you the Blackhawks winning that cup should have an asterisk next to it because it would have been a different scenario had they played a full season.

My opinion is whoever wins the cup, wins the cup.

To say someone is an idiot because they feel otherwise is simpleminded. You may not agree with their opinion, but it doesn't lessen it because you think otherwise.

what people should remember is only 1% of the hockey world and 0% of the sports world would think there should be an asterisk next to the winner this year. being generous with the 1% too likely less.

Here in Buffalo, still waiting for the winner of the '99 Cup final to be determined.

Maybe you should check in with yourself Ek, 100,000 people in your county have died. The USA is in dire straits and you wanna feel happy again so you look to hockey. The season should be cancelled, no asterix, nothing, and the people in your country (and others) should focus on getting healthy, not paying millionaires to entertain you, Caesar

that being said, it shall be recognized that 7 other "non-playoff" teams were truly awful and were told to wait and be ready for nothing. For their failure to compete at the highest level standards for the greater good of the league, these teams shall be subject to relegation to the AHL with immediate effect.

A worthy team will win the cup, it won't be easy for anyone. There is a good story in there somewhere if a team ranked 17-24 (such as the Jets) ends up in the final or wins. The asterix will be more fitting for the regular season stats.

by the time the finals roll around the USA will be focused on NFL training camps, baseball and the NBA

At this point I'm over the asterisk or no asterisk, valid to bring up and talk about for a day or two but now I realize I couldn't care less one way or another. The sooner people stop mentioning it, the better IMO.

Further proof that the majority of us have no concept of true suffering. "Dire Straits." You have a handful of cities dealing with slightly elevated annual flu numbers, based on which news source you choose to believe. In 2004, a tsunami killed over 300,000 throughout the Indian Ocean, in mere hours. And that is in an area of the world where reporting is sub-par. To me, those are conditions that qualify as "dire straights."

My take.... let the players decided. Let democracy reign supreme. If they choose to play, let them play, if they choose to forfeit the season, so be it.

There's some fans who still want to put an asterisk next to the '95 Devils or the '99 Stars. Who cares? Those teams still got their Cup rings, held Cup parades and watched a banner go up the following October. Same thing will happen to this season's Cup champion.

Can someone answer this...If you win 19 (or 20, best of 7 play in is possible) games to get the cup, as opposed to 16 as it’s been for over 100 years, how on earth would that have an asterisk? It’s remotely more difficult to win 5 series’...holy (frank), take your asterisks and shove them up your candy asses😘

Or Boston, with the bye teams, will have to win 16 like always, no asterisk there either

It's a cop out. If my team wins the Cup then it's great. They earned it. I'm celebrating. But if my team doesn't win it, it's a garbage win. Needs an asterisk. They should be ashamed of themselves. Cheer for the laundry and be hypocrites. Let's say the Leafs win the Cup this summer. Do you really think any Leafs fan would feel guilty about winning? Of course they wouldn't and they shouldn't.
I couldn't care less about an asterisk being placed beside my team in the NHL record books. It wouldn't bother me at all.
