The fact that Edmonton and Pittsburgh can feasibly win a lottery pick is a little absurd. Granted, it's a low chance but just imagine how funny it would be.

True, but the possibility that they could not make the (proper) playoffs is what they're paying for that possibility. It's a fair trade.

It’s not gonna be fair. It’s not gonna be perfect.

From this point as a person you can either choose to be miserable and look for ways to complain, or you can understand the extraneous circumstances and be thankful we’re getting anything at all.

I’m glad this appears to be happening and I’m looking forward to it. Hockey is very close to returning!!!

IMO, Las Vegas or LA and Pittsburgh will be the two sites.
There will be no need to self isolate for 14 days when crossing the border for the finals.

That makes Vancouver/Edmonton & Toronto more logical. Less risk & better virus control.

Regular playoffs is 16 teams.

I could see expanding the wild card by 2 teams in each conference but a 24 team playoff is just ridiculous.

Might as well have a full Olympic style tournament with all 31 teams.

I'm fine with the draft system for this year. They should have just waited until after the play-in round is over, but eh.

The two hub sites will have to both be in Canada or both be in the US if our government doesn't give in on the 14 day quarantine thing (which they shouldn't).

Vancouver and Edmonton make sense. L.A.is a poophole. Vegas, Pittsburgh would be good, but ice would suck bad in Vegas.

I don't believe anything ek wrote though.

It’s ridiculous to expand the playoffs but still have the 8 extra teams still qualify for the lottery.

It’s like they’re calling it playoffs to exclude the bottom 7 teams but calling it a play in and not the playoffs for draft purposes.

I’m not angry. It’s a tough situation. Just seems hard on the bottom 7 who will go the longest without playing.

if you are the additional 8 what a great gift, a chance to win the cup but if you lose you are still in the lottery..

I get being pissed if you’re a fan of those bottom 7. It benefits the rangers so I’m happy, but I understand and it feels a wee bit dirty if we lose our prelim round and win some sorta lottery pick

Problem is the only other alt would be top 16, and those bubble teams get screwed big time And only get the lotto. It’s a question of how many teams get screwed and take the lesser of two evils kind of thing.

My opinion is Boston gets the shaft more then any team in the league

The 14-day quarantine thing isn't an issue, and it's absurd that people think it will be. It'll be one team that will have been isolated, monitored, and tested for the prior two months. They'll also continue to be isolated for the two weeks they need for the final.

Use some common sense.

Apparently. If they maintain social distancing and stay extra far away from the rest of the NHL.

LA Live is most definitely not a poophole.

The fact that the JW Marriott is 100 feet from the arena and has enough rooms to house all of the teams and their staff (878 rooms in a 5* hotel) gives it a huge advantage to other cities. The area layout would allow for an easy quarantine of the rink and hotel. They'd even be able to use the Microsoft Theater and LA Convention Center for meeting space.

LAX is a poophole, probably skews people's perceptions of the city as a whole. Vegas and LA are probably the best two candidates. TO and Vancouver are probably the best two in Canada, I don't see a Canadian city being a hub though.

Then again when your team gets the best of both worlds, you should have a very optomistic view.

The only “insider” info in this blog is that Vancouver are favourites. This of coarse means that Vancouver won’t be a hub.
