Play the same music they play in arenas between whistles. Don't change anything. In fact, you can probably get the playlist of popular songs that each team's home arena plays and play that playlist when they are the home team on paper.

for example, more country during Nashville home games, more frenchie-folkie stuff during Habs home games, etc. etc.

I'm sure the players in St. Louis would recognize "Gloria" when they're the home team. "Ole Ole Ole" for Montreal, Drake for Toronto, etc.

I thought most if not all of Eklund's suggestions for fan noise were pretty good also.

Yeah, no. They (thankfully) play more rock than country and that's the way it should be. Unfortunately the goal song is country, though.

Problem with real-time fan things especially if it's through Twitter or isn't moderated there will be inappropriate and offensive things and who knows if they get caught before too late

Actually, country music is some of the best music around! If you take time to listen to the lyrics, it's all about loving your family, loving your wife, spending time with friends, cold beers, hunting, fishing, being on the lake, waterskiing, and working hard and feeling good.

Rap and R&B? "look at my butt....look at my car...look at all my money....sex, sex, look at my bling...don't judge me fool!....look at my butt, look at my car...look at my..."

no thanks. haha

Some good old fashioned rock and roll is great too! But I'm serious when I tell you to not underestimate Country music! You won't go back! lol

shania she's one too
she'll go and get her a shirt

she grabbed a rumor for me
and she did it just like that
when we want something
man, we don't wanna pay for it

I think they should just play standard arena music, and leave it quiet during play

OR

They could go the innovative route. It would be pretty interesting if they could somehow find a way to sync artificial crowd noise into a game, like they do in the NHL video games. The NHL could partner with EA or another developer, and test it during the exhibition games before the playoffs. If it's a hit, keep doing it. If it's a dud, scrap the idea.

When I've been on the bench coaching, you don't really notice the crowd much during play. I don't think the noise thing is as big a factor as some of us like to think. Some noise during stoppages, sure.

Obviously, there aren't 17,000+ fans at the Peewee, middle school and mite games I've been on the bench for... but still we don't pay much attention during play.

They're doing that in a German soccer league to mixed reviews.

Music is subjective. Having said that...

I grew up in Nashville and have heard everything in country music from the early 70's to present. To me, there is not a worse genre in music. I suppose the lyrics of modern country music apply to life if you're a white, uneducated male wannabe alcoholic who likes water sports and big trucks. I mean at this point it's such a stereotype that even women who sing country are telling the guys to sing about something else. And let's face it, no one but five year old kids playing the old west should be wearing a cowboy hat.

I'd rather hear something a little more complex, both compositionally and lyrically. Actually, I'd rather listen to instrumentals. Preferably long ones. Like some live Jazz, a symphony, some early '70's prog rock or a modern jam band. Anything but someone picking a 1-4-5 chord progression OVER AND OVER AGAIN. C and D are very nice major keys, but they're not the only ones.

But like I said, it's subjective.

More Toby Keith would be good... For all the arenas.

And then 80s metal, Megadeth, Judas priest, Slayer, 🐀, Iron maiden, blue oyster cult

Doubt they'll ever play Slayer, but BOC, 80's metal and Symphony of Destruction era Megadeth are already played, at least at Bridgestone.

I don't disagree with you, I also like pretty much all music (I find it hard to appreciate most of the R&B Rappy kind of stuff I mentioned previously but I don't turn it off if the kids aren't around). I have played guitar for decades and I used to play Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen, Zeppelin, etc. I had a mullet and blasted Motley Crue at one point, I also went clubbing and danced to techno! lol

I completely agree with you that it is all subjective and that's why music is so great. Ever since having kids though, I seem to revert back to the "feel good" music. Do I like to play Eruption on the old Wolfgang EVH? hell yes! Turn up "Mr. Vain" on the backyard pool deck?...I'll probably embarrass the kids with some crappy dad dancing! Chill out with some Bob Marley or Ben Harper...Eric Clapton, JJ Cale...It's all great. I'm telling you though, the message in "most" country music is great for the family and the kids. I myself just don't see the stereotype. As I get older, I find myself wanting to tell Eddie Vedder and Bono to "just STFU and sing man...why are you so depressed?" haha

I can still play some pretty complicated stuff (just spent a couple of hours fighting with Dave Matthews Bartender...in drop D)...but I also sat on the back deck and played Radiohead Creep for a LOOOONG time the other day. All four chords! and I loved it. haha

Music is music and the pretension that some people bring to it is almost as bad as those that get all academic about their scotch. It's a turn off, but yeah, to each their own. I definitely went through a "this musician doesn't have enough talent" stage...along with "I only drink old single malt"...but these days I sort of like chillin with the family in the boat listening to Luke Combs and drinkin' a Bud Light!" haha

thanks for the different subject. cheers

EDIT: I feel like I gave Radiohead a bad rap here...they have some pretty great and complex music out there.

My wife and I butt heads all the time. She loves country and sings it often, that's how we met, at a recording studio. She calls me a music snob, and my reply is always, "And?" lol
