Whether it's the old way with a rink of full of fans and an 82 game schedule, or the new way with empty rinks on neutral territory, LOSE THE GODDAMNED DJs! Nothing ruins the game more than constantly cranking the worst tripe the music industry can slap people across the face with. Hockey is BETTER without "eVeRyBoDy ClAp Yo HaNdS!"

The NHL should ask how many people watch games with the sound muted.

DJ is just embarrassing. Leave it alone. Let’s all enjoy the weirdness of silence. Suits the situation. Fans will create their own excitement in house.

I can still play some pretty complicated stuff (just spent a couple of hours fighting with Dave Matthews Bartender...in drop D)...but I also sat on the back deck and played Radiohead Creep for a LOOOONG time the other day. All four chords! and I loved it. haha

Music is music and the pretension that some people bring to it is almost as bad as those that get all academic about their scotch. It's a turn off, but yeah, to each their own. I definitely went through a "this musician doesn't have enough talent" stage...along with "I only drink old single malt"...but these days I sort of like chillin with the family in the boat listening to Luke Combs and drinkin' a Bud Light!" haha

thanks for the different subject. cheers

EDIT: I feel like I gave Radiohead a bad rap here...they have some pretty great and complex music out there.

A lot of current pop takes on that aspect - a simple chord progression repeated. An example would be Harry Styles "Watermelon Sugar". I thought I'd surprise my daughter, who loves him, with learning the song. The verses, pre-chorus and chorus are four chords - Dm7 - Am7 - C - G, repeated over and over again. That's it.

I mean it's a catchy tune, but there's just not a lot there. There's certainly something to be said for layering sounds and instruments to make four chords sound interesting, though.

For Christ's sake, just play the damn games already, if indeed we actually get to that point, and quit worrying about stupid, trivial stuff like piping in artificial crowd noise and/or some contrived music montage.

How about if I don't like the quiet room I can put on my own music? Popular music these days sucks and an earful during a game might be all it would take to break the spell and turn this compellingly unique compromise of a tournament into a joke of a cashgrab that demeans the Cup and all past winners.

Somehow at the 12th hour something will fall through and there won’t be a playoff. Right now I’d say 50/50. What is the Buzztron saying?

here's a thought- why dont we just go back to letting the in-house organist provide the music?...god, imagine a freeking dj in Boston Garden or Chicago Stadium? or the Forum in Montreal...give me a break... thanks , no... i can hear anything i want anytime i want on Spotify, and i go to a hockey game--get this- to see a hockey game! of course i'm also perfectly aware that old school ship has long sailed; the game day 'expereince' has become as, or more, important than the game itself. Whatever, i still go, when i can and am glad to be there. And i have nothing against harnessing all of the current tech to keep the arenas as cutting edge up-to-date as possible; a lot of its pretty trick.... but awash in that stuff at work and at home, sometimes, too much is too much...

The "Home" team for each game can have their own crowd noise/music playing during the games. Why can't you have one member of a teams audio work the sound system at the arena? That way you get the crowd noise and familiar music from each arena during the game. I'm sure each team could easily do this

[quote=JLO961]I don't disagree with you, I also like pretty much all music (I find it hard to appreciate most of the R&B Rappy kind of stuff I mentioned previously but I don't turn it off if the kids aren't around). I have played guitar for decades and I used to play Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen, Zeppelin, etc. I had a mullet and blasted Motley Crue at one point, I also went clubbing and danced to techno! lol

Does it have to just be crowd noise or music? Can the home team pipe in animal mating calls or is this music-specific?

Forget the music. Just put microphones all around the top of the glass so we can listen to the sounds of the game with the players chirping each other. There may be a couple of beeps thrown in just for the kids but what the heck.

Pipe in the crowd meter/sound effects/Organ music from EA Sports NHL94. That would be amazing.

Networks are looking to see how they introduce augmented crowd sounds into the broadcasts. Presumably that would include goal songs and music during stoppages but not during play. I'm sure Ek knew this though.

Actually, country music is some of the best music around! If you take time to listen to the lyrics, it's all about loving your family, loving your wife, spending time with friends, cold beers, hunting, fishing, being on the lake, waterskiing, and working hard and feeling good.

Rap and R&B? "look at my butt....look at my car...look at all my money....sex, sex, look at my bling...don't judge me fool!....look at my butt, look at my car...look at my..."

no thanks. haha

Some good old fashioned rock and roll is great too! But I'm serious when I tell you to not underestimate Country music! You won't go back! lol

This is one of the most idiotic, tone deaf posts I've seen. Why not just come out and say I don't like blacks. Enjoy whatever music you want but shut the (frank) up.

Music is subjective. Having said that...

I grew up in Nashville and have heard everything in country music from the early 70's to present. To me, there is not a worse genre in music. I suppose the lyrics of modern country music apply to life if you're a white, uneducated male wannabe alcoholic who likes water sports and big trucks. I mean at this point it's such a stereotype that even women who sing country are telling the guys to sing about something else. And let's face it, no one but five year old kids playing the old west should be wearing a cowboy hat.

I'd rather hear something a little more complex, both compositionally and lyrically. Actually, I'd rather listen to instrumentals. Preferably long ones. Like some live Jazz, a symphony, some early '70's prog rock or a modern jam band. Anything but someone picking a 1-4-5 chord progression OVER AND OVER AGAIN. C and D are very nice major keys, but they're not the only ones.

But like I said, it's subjective.

Have you been to a Darius Rucker concert? I have. Country music fans love him. Get a clue and go post your hate somewhere else.

Just sneak in a few people. Spread 50 "team employees" ,"media" and "logistical personnel" around the 17,000 seat arena and tell them to cheer.

I am honestly SO interested in hearing the cut of the skates, pucks off the dashers, pucks off sticks and body checks in an empty arena. Amplify that and do play by play. No need for BS that is not hockey related.
