What do Makar’s minutes look like? Or Quinn Hughes? Better than them is what all the snake oil salesmen around here were pitching. Ennnnnnt. Wrong again.
- Hatboro_Swords

Makar and Hughes are fantastic. So is Dahlin.

I mean, he’s top 3 in scoring all time for a teenage D man? Are we really going to say he isn’t super good because his play along the boards needs some improvement?

I still take Dahlin over both.

I also think with my Skinner and Reinhart takes of years past that it’s an impartial take free of bias.

But everyone has opinions and they are all fair.

I honestly cannot believe they are going to waste the best player we’ve had since Hasek and not even make the playoffs
- sbroads24

Meh everything happens for a reason. For as bad the Sabres have been they still have as many playoff series wins as Toronto the last few years.

Can also make an argument that we are surrounding Eichel with a core that will put us over the top although it may not be the most time efficient way.

Hopefully Dahlin, Joker, Cozens, UPL, 2020 first hit their ceilings and they can get Reinhart done on a moderate term deal at a good hit and the last few years will be a blimp on the radar just like it is now for Canes fans.

With the flat cap for the next few years, and the probable salary depression that will come with it, I wonder if Sam takes a shorter term deal for a shot at a higher AAV once salaries and the cap (hopefully) start going up again?

It’s why if we get a legit offer this year in a loaded draft Adams has to seriously consider it. Once he demands a trade GMs will be circling us like vultures.

If LA is offering Turcotte and #2 (Byfield) and something else that would make me consider. Guarantees another top 5 pick next year and we would could have a team like the 06/07 Sabre’s. No superstar but three lines centered by Cozens/Byfield/Turcotte

Sure. If it makes the team better I'll trade anyone not named Dahlin or Eichel. I'm skeptical trading Reinhart will make the Sabres better, though.

a while now? that's great. I engaged you for the first time in 2 years and you went right back to the stupid bet that you actually forgot about. the proof is in the pudding and its quite funny. you spewed bullpoop for days on end. I called you out and found the original page that debunked your bullpoop where you initially proposed a bet for a drink. sure enough, you didnt respond after calling me out for not responding to you. that's something else huh?...... when I get a few free minutes I will find the bet. you will lose and be gone forever, if you actually man up to it (which I dont expect you to.) you should thank me for being too busy to care right no
w as it allowed you to post all your poopty childish posts along with this poopty childish post. nobody will miss your neverending girly antics. back to your mom's basement you will go to drink your MUG rootbeer.
flag me, I'm sure you will (little girl). I dont give a single fiddlers (frank). you just suck at an unprescedenall all-time level

To be fair, Ralph made the most progress in doing so, still more to be made, but he did way more than both Bylsma and Housley put together. Almost 4 fewer minutes of ice time compared to 2 years ago(200 more minutes in only 4 more games at evens), and about 2 fewer than last year.
- Wetbandit1

That’s all well and good. The secondary issue is the contract and his two years away from UFA status.

It just makes too much sense. Even Risto expects it himself

Well when ya hear media rumors about it year after year....

And Botts was still GM when that happened
Risto & Kruger seem to like each other
So now that Ralph (most are assuming) has a say in personnel, i don’t think it’s close to as clear cut as you’re making it

He could of course still be moved
Just don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion like you seem to

I’m sure it’s not. It just makes sense.

I don’t think the dude is worthless. I do think we’re absolutely better off with him on another team as opposed to him playing as a franchise D.

The problem is there hasn’t been a middle ground

You’re exaggerating a bit here
22:48 in icetime this season under Kruger
3 seasons ago he was at 26:30
2 seasons ago at 24:38

It’s like as we get more talent on defense,
we don’t have to play him as much

Dahlin got 19:18 in icetime
And Jokiharju got 17:13

Doesn’t it make sense that as Dahlin & Jokiharju grow & improve that they’ll get more icetime?

That would continue to drop how much Risto is out there... would it not?

All of this is moving in the right direction,
right?!

And as for the contract/upcoming UFA status...

The drop in icetime & him being off PP1 should keep from it being a monster deal

Risto apparently doesn’t have value now to get us a top6 forward
So if he doesn’t wanna re-sign for a decent deal,
we could potentially get just as good of a deal for him at the deadline as we could now
Top4 defensemen are always in demand,
especially RH ones

Well there’s absolutely a team who would pay him 6+. Look at the deals UFA D men get every year.

He isn’t worth that to us.

All I care about is that he doesn’t play as our #1 D anymore.

Dahlin and Jokiharju are this teams future

As i stated before...
His icetime has dropped roughly 2min each of the past 2 years, so it’s moving in the direction u want
And it will continue to do so as Dahlin & Jokiharju develop & earn more icetime

If he doesn’t have trade value now to get a top6 forward, then we might as well just hang on to him till the deadline
Might even get more for him than we can now

That may well be, but when has the organization done anything that makes sense? The last three things I can think of, drafting Dahlin, re-signing Eichel, and drafting Eichel. And those were the easiest of gimmies. The rest?

I don’t agree that we need a “RD1” necessarily

If Dahlin turns out to be what he’s supposed to,
a RD2 quality partner for him will be just fine

Karlsson for example was never paired with another AllStar, just a solid partner like Hainsey

Heck...
Does Vegas even have a first pair guy?
Schmidt 22:14
Theodore 21:41
Martinez 21:28
McNabb 20:01
Holden 18:51
Merrill 18:09

They’ve just got a bunch of 2nd pair guys they play pretty evenly

The NHL is different now
We don’t need to pair Pronger & Niedermayer together necessarily anymore
Lots of ways to get the job done

- jdfitz77

This is a solid post, and I should have been more specific in my post...
rather than a "1RhD" like Petrangelo, they need a highly complimentary RhD for Dahlin's partner to optimize his value in the Transition and Offensive phases, while also maximizing the pairings Defensive capabilities...a strong, defensively aware, stay-at-home partner.

You have heard me say that for 2 years now.
Not sure what the handle for that player should be...but on THIS Sabres team I have called it "1RhD"...does not infer a Pietrangelo.

My buddy is pissed that FL is one of the only states that he cant move to.

Just curious why FL doesn't recognize the UBE?
