An extension of the CBA would be a huge development for everyone and great for the health of the league. |

One interesting tidbit is that reports on the discussion of a new CBA extension is that a compliance buyout has not been a part of the talks. This is going to hurt a lot of teams and a lot of players. Flyers are looking at having 11.9M to re-sign or replace 10 players. With the cap proposal to stay flat for the next three years, that is going to hurt the 500+ players who will be either UFA's or RFA's. It will be interesting with what happens. |

Who would you buy out on the Flyers if you were the GM and had 1 compliance buyout? |

That’s a no brainer lol. We have one or two guys too many making $7M+ on the back 9 of their career. |

July 1st, my favorite day of the year. I’m sure some of my family and friends can relate. Not because it’s Canada Day, which by the way, Happy Canada Day!! But because it’s normally NHL free agency today. Most remember the summer of 2001 where the Flyers signed Jeremy Roenick but sadly traded Eric Lindros, as well as re-signed John LeClair. The summer Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille both signed with the Red Wings. Alexander Mogilny signed to the Leafs. Jaromir Jagr was traded from Penguins to Capitals. Doug Weight was traded from Oilers to the Blues. Our own personal Christmas if you’re a hockey fan growing up in Canada.
But then Covid-19 came along.... |

Any positive news on Nolan Patrick? While we’re all aware Lindblom won’t play, at least we know he’s skated. |

I feel for JvR. We brought him in as a top LW and a possible 40 goal scorer if we’re lucky but going back and forth between line one with G at center to Laughton on the third line cannot be a comfort way to get rolling. |

Feel like Patrick is always status quo, last thing was he was working out in his hometown. No update on return to play. |

When they signed a JVR he had .62 ppg over a 9 year career. His last 2 years with the Flyers he had .72 ppg |

Canada Day Celebration: Flyers Style

I’ve always voiced how proud I get when we trade for or sign a black player. It’s just pride in Heritage, no different from anybody else. On the other hand, I’ve always counted how many Canadians we have on our team. As a Flyers fan growing up in Windsor, I’ve always took jabs because I’m not a fan of a Canadian team. My response is always the same, we’ve always been captained by a Canadian and we have more Canadians on our team then you anyway. |

I remember counting when we played the Habs in the conference final in 2010 and we had more Canadian players than they did on the roster. |

Derian Hatcher and Peter Forsberg jump out as the 2 non-Canadian captains I can think of off the top of my head. |

How's it going, MJL? Hope all is well. I was thinking the same thing. It looks like perhaps the players that were hoping for big paydays as UFAs may have to lower their expectations. I also think that the result is going to be even greater parity as those players are looking for the bigger payday end up going to teams that are not competitive and have some workable cap space. This will be interesting to see. |

During the prime seasons when I was starting to feel like most of the Canadian teams were pushing for cups...Mats Sundin, Daniel Alfredson, Marcus Naslund and Saku Koivu were captaining those standout teams. In the battle of Alberta, broadcasters would call Ryan Smyth Captain Canada, even though Jason Smith was their Captain and Jerome Iginla was way better!! |

Ryan Smyth got that nickname because he was consistently involved and successful on Canadian national teams at various levels of international play.
