Up? Heck no.. that's silly.

Leverage the perceived value of a top-10 (not top-5 or 3) pick and get a roster player while swapping 1st's if you're really wanting more kids who can help you in like 3 years.

I'd trade all of my picks this year (and any year I wasn't drafting #1 or 2 overall) for the right player .. especially Buffalo and especially now.

If draft picks are so great then how about our 1st and 2nd for the next 4 years (+any roster player) for Jack?

I'm not trading risto for anything other than an nhl quality forward.

Ridiculous thinking that other teams have little interest.

Maybe trade sam and move up 3 spots from 8 to 5?

Also seems ridiculous, but a similar suggestion.

No more players for picks please, or even worse:

You made reference that the #5 spot would be a good target for the Sabres but you failed to post what kind of deal you'd offer. As a Sens fan, I'm intrigued as to what the Sabres could possibly offer for our #5 pick.

Montour would be a good start but not sure BUF includes him in a deal. Ristolainen isn't worth his salary so Buffalo would definitely have to retain at least 2M for each of the 2 years remaining on his contract and then add.

So curious, what would Buffalo fans offer for our 5th pick?

In my previous article, I looked into what trading out with ~8th overall looks like. It doesn't happen often, but more often than not the team moving the pick loses both short term and long term

Ask Columbus how the Jeff Carter trade worked out for them.

I was mostly just trying illustrate what the jump from 8 to 5 can look like in terms of pick value, although I do reference Montour as a possible trade chip at the end.

I think interest is still there, just that the value you can get is significantly lower.

"who will make less than 1 mil on the cap for his first three NHL seasons"

The quote above is said often but not necessarily true due to performance bonuses that can boost any single ELC season into the $3M range, right?

While I would take picks for Ristolainen at this point just to clear the cap space and have a greater ability to bring back impactful forwards, and the Leafs possible trade proposed days ago for Kerfoot and Johnsson aside (no way would the Leafs do that), how about Andrew Copp as the main target for Ristolainen?

Given how deep this draft is considered, that #5 pick could end up being just as good as Eichel, or very close to. I think a major piece would need to be added to your offer, at the very least.

Absolutely, I am referring to the <1 mil for roster build. If the player hits the bonuses, great, you would pay those overages with a smile because the increase only happens if the player performs, hence usually good value.

You're overrating this draft a bit with the Eichel comparison, mainly because Eichel is just that good.

Still seems like alot.

28th overall for montour and guhle

Then montour + 8oa for 5oa

Has montour's value fallen since becoming a sabre?
Lesser value today than when we acquired him?

Maybe 8oa and Johansson for 5oa?

Its hit close to 20,000 like I predicted, then the fed bailed the market out. Extenuating circumstances.

Like the Lindholm trade that you posted 39, wonder if Risto has that much value to pull it off.

Picking is still a gamble and you need sure things, NOW, or he's demanding a trade.

Roster players don't give 2 'you know what's' about picks

If you're moving up, you also increase the likelihood (one that is already fairly high) that the player immediately steps in to the NHL, making him a roster player.

Also, this idea doesn't keep the sabres from making other deals to improve the team. At least, it shouldn't.

It will always be "bailed out" .. and should be.

However, malfeasance must be properly identified and punished and we're not even close that that (yet)

Moving up isn’t worth the price. The 8 hole has a good chance of something very good falling to it.

and all Jack (and his peers) will be asked about for 3 months straight is how pumped they are about those picks ...

I do think you (probably) have the right people in place to make those type of decisions now.
