Bill Meltzer: Provorov Wins Barry Ashbee Trophy - Bill_Meltzer
Players like Hayes, Konecny and Couturier get a lot of mention around here but in my opinion, Ivan Provorov is head and shoulders our most valuable player. After losing Kimmo Timonen, the ship only got righted the moment we found our number one defenseman of the future. |

I'd say both he and Coots do so much, they'd be sunk without them both. IMO. But yes, their D would be a mess without him. |

And in consideration of Kimmo (and Harts) we got a front loaded offer sheet for our next great defender.
Speaks volumes. |

Maybe don't toy with your top defender by low balling him and not offering a long-term contract while refusing to trade him for less than the moon. |

Thought for sure NJ Devils were taking him at 6, after the Zacha pick, Hexy ran up to the podium. |

Having a top-10 pick in that draft was like shooting fish in a barrel.
Unless you were the Devils. |

yea but we screwed up major with the patrick pick! HEX just concentrated on his 20 year rebuild plan. And didn't check out Patrick's headache family history. - 2Real

whatever.
Patrick is going to have a long career. Its migraines. not a torn or ruptured ACL and degenerative hip.
It can and will be treated. |

I hope so. It would be nice if the team would release some type of status report. It’s been about a year now and if he can’t return soon, it does start to concern me a bit. |

For sure, nothing about the situation seems normal. Definitely concerned.

Tendons and hips can be replaced/repaired, tho. Kind of a weird comparison. |

Are there many guys playing hockey with a replaced hip?

Instead of replacement they do resurfacing now. It's no longer a career ender. |

Hey, if St. Louis could fix Braydon Schenn's brain, I don't see why Patrick can't overcome his migraine issues. |

Currently? Not sure. But both Emery and Nitty played after getting theirs replaced. |

I think it is very likely that it is not just migraines. My guess is migraines + post-concussion syndrome or/and anxiety/depression. |

Match, ignoring that sort of plain logic is why Weber was offer sheeted in the first place. Not sure too many in Nashville will understand that.

Highly likely that Provy beats Desjardin's record of 7. He's still only 23. Perhaps throw a Norris or two in there, as well.

I let the Doctors make the medical diagnosis rather than guessing on the internet.
