Well, it certainly impacts the gambling community to know what the reason is.

As a fan, all I want is a timetable. If he's gonna be out for 2-3 weeks, then tell me it's 2-3 weeks. If it's day-to-day, then tell me it's day-to-day. I don't think that's unreasonable.

But if all you get is "LBI", that could be anything from an ankle contusion to a broken knee, and as a fan, I'd like to know which one it is.

Entitled media and fans thinking they have a "right" to anything. You have no right to other peoples private information.

No. There is no right to know. The players have right to have their personal health information protected. Not even just the right but it is required. I'm sure you've heard of HIPAA by now...

Along this thought process, isn’t it possible to have privacy but yet be informative? For example, teams must report:

Reason
3 designation options
1. personal reasons
2. illness
3. injury

And

Timeline
3 options
1. under evaluation (7 day maximum)
2. estimated timeframe (eg. 4-6 weeks)
3. out indefinitely

Players can specify the specifics if they wish, but no other info is truly relevant to the general public. People can be respectful and not ask.

Although during Covid19, it might not work.

These players dont work for you. It's none of your business what's wrong. As a fan it's not my business to know what's wrong. Just support the players who are on the ice .

Players agreed to be in the public spotlight - not to give up ALL their privacy rights. If you can provide a single reason for disclosure that could legitimately supersede their privacy rights, I'd be happy to listen. Sadly, this article does not provide such reasoning.
