Yeah, and Dahlin doesn't have a shutout either. What are we doing here? We're comparing forwards and defensemen?

Go back to my comparison of the 1st two seasons of Ekblad and Dahlin. Dahlin has more points in fewer games. Would you be happier if he had fewer points but more goals? So instead of having 44 points, would you have been happier if he had 15 goals and 35 points overall?

- jcragcrumple

While I agree with your premiss that F and D shouldn't use the same stats for comparables, the fact is that D men are often viewed on this board through the lense of points produced.

Good comparison.

I personally feel like dahlin fell short of MY goal scoring expectations. Just wondered what other posters thought in regards to their forecasting after being picked #1?

Anyone have dahlin at under 20 goals, for 2 seasons? 18 for hedman seemed like the minimum.

Or eckblad's numbers

You response to other posters providing their feedback would suggest otherwise.

What do u mean your hopes and expectations were too high? The snake oil salesmen around here said he was going to be the best defenceman ever drafted. The Connor McDavid of defenceman. Fanboys still trying to tell you he has been every bit of that. đź‘Ś

McDavid was instantly generational as advertised.

Think what you want about Dahlin or Edmunds. They’re overrated. The next time I’m wrong on this board will be the first time. Fortunate for some, unlucky for others, the archives don’t lie.

- Hatboro_Swords

Edmund's will be a probowler 1st team all pro AGAIN

AGAIN - meaning he was already last year. That's not overrated.

What were expectations of a mid 1st round pick?
They were met.

What accolades has dahlin accomplished?
13 goals is well short of any draft promises

There is no way in hell Edmunds was a 1st Team All Pro already. He was a pro Bowl alternate at best. Edmunds didn’t have expectations like Once in a lifetime 13 goals Dahlin. His overratedness occurred after he was on the team. There was a reason he fell in the draft. Bills fans be like he is really big and fast, he must be the best LB in the NFL. Milano has been much more impactful imo. I acknowledge Milano missed some big time tackles in late Pats game and WC Game. He can be better. Honestly, I feel better about Edmunds than Once in a lifetime 13 goals Dahlin.

You said it best in describing difference between the two.
Bill's D system is designed to maximize impact if LB.
Sabres system prohibited Dmen from skating past the redline with the puck.

One compliments the player, one limits the player.

The question should be;
Does the Sabres system limit the goal scoring capabilities of the Dmen and if so should I blame the player or the system for not meeting my expectations envisioned with a more wide open system.

And that's reasonable. It's why I compared him to another 1OA, Ekblad. Dahlin has more points in fewer games through the first 2 years. He also has fewer goals, to Boss's point. I think the goals will come more easily as he gains bulk and gets more snap on his wrister. His shot is pretty weak right now, but that will change as he gets bigger imo

I googled profootball reference tremaine Edmunds
Selected to Pro Bowl, + First-Team All-Pro
Check It out

I can't attach the link

I like milano too, but tremaine is bigger and faster.

I thought you followed the Bill's? How did you miss a 6'5 guy all over the field?

Sure , good question. Why disregard my question though?

No way you thought dahlin would have only 13 goals after 2 nhl seasons. Double digit minimum. So 20 at least.

Common McDavid of defenseman..... bla bla

Systems or no systems , 2 separate coaches and systems. 13 goals. On the pp1 with Jack

Very reasonable post. Dahlin will get better and stronger .

Just thought he would be a better goal scorer. Bring us to not 25th place with his 4 goals this season.

The highlights had him dangling .

You had him for a goal every 15 games this season on your bingo card?

which is the exact opposite of what botts said he was going to do, and kym's hand picked soccer czar does not implement
- homiedclown

Botts wasn’t the coach though
And if Housley, or Kruger, or whoever “opened it up” then we’d have gotten slaughtered

Didn’t have the offensive talent to outscore teams & win games like the Leafs do
And we didn’t have nearly strong enough goaltending to do so either

Maybe we’d have scored 3 goals a game instead of 2? But we’d also have given up 6 goals instead of 3

One big reason i failed against the return for ROR was bc NONE of the guys we got back were the type of player to fit that style of play

I think it’s probably harder to remake the roster then we’d all like to believe

No, but I also didn't picture his ATOI decreasing this year from last year. I'm interested to see what he will do with undisputed 1st pair minutes with a bigger frame and hopefully a better cast of offensive characters

As a season ticket holder, I'm hoping for a reduced (25%) capacity seating for the 2021 season. Probably 0% without a vaccine.

Hopefully these guys, including dahlin mature physically during the covid break.

Maybe push for a playoff spot, then 2022 be ready to role.

Hopefully adding some interest, for easier ticket resale

Nice to have a facelift or new jumbotron at the arena for 2022.

Dahlin is gonna be starting his prime and we will see what we really have..

Don’t believe it because it never happened. All Pro is the elite of the elite.

Of course I noticed Edmunds. Impossible not to notice a giant trying to chase down a running back who cut back after the Giant overpursued a gap.

B34, I like Edmunds and think he can get better. I think Milano is better and still has room to get better just the same. I see Milano as the Kuechly and Edmunds the Thomas Davis.

it's not like he brought jobs to his district in atlanta

or raised the community out of poverty

or improved the lives of children in his district

all I remember him for is playing the race card time after time in congress

I am sure he did great things in the 60's but 10 days of this "savior" is 9 more then 99.9999999999% of people get

if want to play it safe and be around .500 he is fine

if you want to untap the potential of these kids, need a more offensive minded coach

Tremaine Edmunds was a probowler last year. Team captain, didnt miss a game.

Milano makes sure tackles in big games, like dahlin scores goals.

Love milano but, tremaine 22 years old
Milano 26 tommorow.

4 years , that's a huge difference in man size.

It's like comparing rinofan to a real man.

Apparantly you fail to grasp the significance of limiting a Dman to the redline, or you just disregard it for convenience. Your question isn't valid as you want go disregard the impact of limitations placed upon him in your vociferous quest to get an answer involving numbers.

Consider how many goals would Ovie have if he was limited to go no further than redline.
Do you think PB37 would have the gaudy defensive stats if his coach limited him to comeback only as far as the redline?

It is critical actually.

Believe the Krueger system is effective in limiting scoring chances against, while significantly handcuffing the offensively gifted Dmen in Dahlin and Montour, joker to a lesser extent.
I blame the system.
Furthermore, it is boring ass hockey to watch.
I stand with our former Blogger Ghofrani in desiring a more high event style game.

He was NOT an original selection,
and he was certainly not an “all pro”

Who brought in the Girgs comparison. Geez kid had like 50 points in his first 140gms
Dahlin 84 points in his first 141
I would think having his defensive game worked on has affected Dahlin's offensive production. He really hasn't had the chance to unleash his offensive game yet.
