Oilers and Flames together sounds very dangerous.

After watching this, there's no way in hell Smith should get the start against the Hawks I don't care about his "track record"; mother(frank)er was flaccid on 75% of the goals the Hawks scored in the season series.

No need to worry. The Flames will be put out shortly after opening face off.

I’d go with Koskinen regardless.

Did some digging into the numbers and here are how the big guys tend to perform in Octobers:

McDavid - 23 points in 14 games, 18 in 11, 11 in 10, and 12 in 9
Draisaitl - 25 in 14, 13 in 11, 7 in 6, 6 in 9
Nuge - 9 in 14, 13 in 11, 6 in 10, 4 in 9

Koskinen - 5W and 1L w/ .922, 5 and 2 w/ .913
Smith - 4 3 and 1 w/ .919, 4 4 and 1 w/ .878, 6 and 5 w/ .931, 4 1 and 2 w/.928

*a couple of the goalie samples only saw 2 games in OCT so I extended those to be their first 8 games

Athanasiou and Ennis are typically a slow starter, Neal fluctuates on a season-by-season basis, and Klefbom and Nurse have been trending positively in their season start quality. The rest are either insignificant or don't have enough data.

Not sure why they would go with Smith unless Koskinen is coughing his lungs out. Experience or not, they need to ride or die with the giant.

The team overall performs "better" (higher possession, xGF, etc) with Smith behind them than Koskinen.

He's signed as their starter for another 2 years, his numbers are better, he didn't get poop-caved by the Hawks this season, he has a history of strong playoff performances in the KHL, he's lower variance, etc.

Don't you dare run Freddy Andersen's numbers.

You've been warned, duckface.

Yeah, those certainly don't look all too encouraging but have you seen his November numbers?

2016-17: 8-4-0 .931
2017-18: 9-2-1 .938
2018-19: 8-3-0 .942
2019-20: 7-3-1 .938

I cringe every time Smith leaves his crease. He gets a nice pass in once in a blue moon, but most of the time it’s just stressful as (frank) watching him play the puck!

But he used to be really good at it, like Hextall good.

Might win ya a game with a good chip in OT.

Admittedly I’m a Smith fan.
