How do you figure you'd be way over the cap? The Sabe's have a ton of money coming off the books this summer...your projected cap space for next year (per CapFriendly) is: $34,483,333

All I'm saying is...just don't let Kim P hand it ALL to Dominik Kahun...

Have to sign Reinhart, Montour, Girgs, Larsson, Olofsson, Kahun and Ullmark.

The 3 biggest issues with Buffalo right now are:
1. Coach isn't right for this talent or this market.
2. Hutton isn't a true #1 goalie and they need a guy who can steal 5-10 games a season.
3. Defence lacks a real team leader who plays big minutes.

Given what they have to trade and the tough conference they play in, it will take more than 3 moves and 12 months to turn things around.

1. Risto(or Montour, yeah yeah) to Ducks for Henrique to play 2C for now. Cozens and Mittelstadt can compete for a top 6 W job and hopefully be the 2C when Henrique's deal is up.

2. Patience. No more UFA signings unless cheap, reliable bottom 6 guys. Rebuild the scouting staff so they can actually get role players in later rounds. Let the bad deals expire without adding new ones.

3. Inquire about Zacha to play 3C. Don't overpay.

Not much actual turnover but fills holes and thinks longer term, sustainable improvement instead of more bandaids for bullet wounds.

1) Remove Terry & Kim from all hockey related decision making.
2) Trade for a legitimate 2C as there are no UFA's on the market that I consider legitimate #2's. A true 2C could cost us our 8th overall pick and for the right player, contract & term the pick should be on the table. Jack wont wait for an 18 year old kid to develop and make an impact.
3) Use our cap space to acquire talent at below market value from teams in expansion draft and salary cap purgatory.

1) Give all the players to Seattle and make it their problem to figure out.

2) Sell off the franchise name back to the NHL for $400M which is what it’s worth about.

3) Use the money to buy all the great hockey fans out there season tickets so they can enjoy going to see their favorite team play the greatest game on earth with their family when (if?) this world ever becomes normal again.

1. RD Ristolainen, C Middlestadt, G Lukkonnen to Vancouver for C Gaudette, G Demko, C Sutter, W Motte and W Baertschi. It gives Buffalo hungry buried players more ice time. A #2 & #3 Center. All players are relatively low paid or in contract years. Baertschi is in last year of deal as salary taken back.

2. Sign UFA Winger Hoffman

3. Trade prospect Cozens and a 1st round pick to Hawks for hometown boy Patrick Kane. Hawks need to dump salary while Kane is still relatively young but on a giant contract.

How much do you think markstrom is getting next year?

How much do you think petterson and hughes will be getting in 2 seasons??

Yup...vancouver will be entering salary cap hell in a year’s time. All the big money will be spent (didn’t even mention boeser with only 1 year remaining of RFA status when his bridge deal ends...BIG MONEY NEEDED THERE TOO)...

But at least they’ll have ferland and roussell and beagle and myers all locked up!!!

Too bad they suck though.

- bruceflyers

The interesting thing about salaries is that the END. So you see when Petey and Hughes need new contracts, others like Sutter, Edler, Pearson, Benn come off the books - I can explain it in further detail if you still don't understand. All this coming from a guy who thinks Nolan "I have a headache" Patrick was a better pick than Pettersson. Speaking of cap space don't Philly have like 9mil to sign Migraine, Myers, Hagg, a back goalie and fill what 5 roster spots next year....BTW those Kevin Hayes/JVR contracts are gonna age nicely. yup running your mouth genius.

There are a lot of holes with so many contracts up this year, so with only three moves allowed, multiple player trades will be needed, and its best to focus on teams with a cap crunch.

1. Tyler Johnson and Palat from TB for Colin Miller. Helps TB with their cap and it looks like they need some help on RD. Johnson can play 2C for a year until Cozens is ready. Then they switch. Palat is a decent top 9 option.

2. Jake Allen and Jaden Schwartz from StL for 2 2nds. Again St.L is in a cap crunch and moving these players could allow them to resign their captain. Allen actually had a good year last year and could be a decent option in net. Schwartz puts up a lot of points when healthy. Both are UFA's at the end of next year so they can be resigned or sold off at the trade deadline for picks.

3. Sign Taylor Hall. 5 years, $50M. The term is the key based on his age, I wouldn't go longer. Play him with Eichel and Skinner to form potentially one of the best lines in the league, and hopefully keep Eichel happy.

Line combos

Skinner Eichel Hall
Schwartz Johnson Reinhart
Palat Cozens Olafson
Kahun Johansson Thompson

1, Trade a first and Miller to Calgary for Johnny Hockey, a first and rights to Hamonic.
2. Trade Risto to TO for Johnson, Bracco. and Holloway,
3. Go after skill in free agency targeting Hall, Ennis, Hoffman, and Davidov hopefully getting two of them.
These moves substantially improves the wings and adds overall skill. Miller and Risto is rumoured to be on their way out, Johnny hockey can drive his own line if needed(or be Eichel's Marner). Johnsson can do for Eichel what he does for Matthews, and Bracco and Holloway are high risk prospects which could be high reward.

Well cause the Flames have called the Sabres about Montour and rumors floating that if they bow out quickly this year they might blow it up, and they have 3 Dman that are FA.

Okay but why are they trading their top center for a #4 defenseman and a 23 year old nobody? You don't think they can get a better offer?
