Tough way to open the series. Not having Shesty available changed everything. Good teams will have other players step up and our vets let us down. Kreider was invisible for most of the game and Zibby and Bread looked out of sync. Smith played with the snarl that we thought we were getting when we gave him that contract years ago. Trouba played well too.
Many of the kids looked good in their first post-season game: Gauthier, Lindgren stood out and big surprise was Howden. Howden led all players with hits and even though he took 2 penalties ( first one was BS ) he was engaged and played hard all game. Fox wasn't awful, but it was far from his best.
The best takeaway from this is that the kids got valuable experience from the adversity of the situation. By no means was this a blow out and I fully expect a sharper performance in game 2. Onward to Monday! |
