That would be perfect and I see that happening the day after he retires. However, I don't think he can take a job with the Rangers if he retires before his contract is up.

Why? If he retires he is forfeiting the salary. There is no contractual conflict I would think

If he retires and there is no concern that his salary rolled forward into a "consulting" gig as a way of cap circumvention.

Asking for a trade isn't the same as getting one. There aren't many teams that are going to be able to take on even 50% of his hit with the cap staying flat next season.
- BINGO!

Ultimately, this isn't a cap issue but rather a depth issue. We need him off the roster so our two young guys can play.

I would think the Rangers would rather retain salary in a trade and have it be a one year situation, rather than buy out a player who will have his number raised to the rafters and have the burden of cap for more than one year.

It's not a cap issue for you, it might be for anyone who would take him on though

Honestly, what the hell is Brooks' intention reporting this? He couldn't have made this public earlier during the slow part of the break? What about after the playoffs, you know, so there isn't this bs drama lurking around Hank as he tries to go win a cup?

(frank) him. What a clown.

That's why I would rather go the cap retention route over a buyout. We can absorb it for the next year and keeps less stress on Gorton for the following season.

I think Chris Pronger had a consulting role while he still had years left on his contract. Of course I think the Flyers were still putting him on LTIR.

"Consulting" jobs might be a little bit of a workaround to actually having them be a literal team employee. I have no idea how the rules on that read, re: being under a SPC and also holding a team job, but typically consultants are independent contractors and get 1099'd instead of being on the payroll

For real though, I am not to confident after watching that practice game. I hope they were just holding back till the games actually count

I think all teams will be somewhat rusty, thats what will make these playoffs fun. I believe anyone could win this whole thing. I would never bet on any of these games

Isn't the offense usually ahead of the defense early in seasons? Bet the over.

So he will turn over the puck 8 times in a game directly leading to a goal instead of his normal 10 times and 2 goals

Martin Necas practiced with team today.

Brind'amour says Hamilton may be back in time to play in this series.

There's a reason he got referred to as (frank)ing Skjei for the last 2 years.

He's always had more turnovers than takeaways that's for sure

(Though oddly enough it was the opposite for the first 7 games as a Hurricane, the worst of the turnovers being, of course, against the Rangers.)

Thing is that we run a high-skill offense these days. Bread, Zibby, ADA, Foxy, Chytil, all these guys produce pretty, pretty plays. Getting that back in sync takes more than one game. Hopefully not more than 4 though!!!

I really thought we had a star in the making his rookie year. He was a beast with Smith in the playoffs too. Don't know what happened to him
