That may be true, too. The on-high moving camera, I think they call it the JitaCam, was really noticeable to me during the exhibition games but I don't really recall seeing it today. Maybe I'm just used to it now, not sure.

I'm going back tonight for Wpg/Cgy, so I will check then.

Let me know if any of you have other questions about what's happening inside the arena!

- Carol Schram

I'm liking some of the camera angles from the pitts-mtl game so far.

Hockey is back!

Carol, have you seen any banter between players on different teams in the hotel bubble?

I thought the Hawks looked really good. Toews had that fire in his belly, for sure, and Kubalik was fantastic, especially on the PP.

I also thought Tippett could have done more to reverse the momentum earlier. I thought he should have at least called time out when Chicago went up 3-1. Smith didn't look good, but he didn't get much help either.

People here are pumped up for hockey, even if they can't get into the rink. It was cool to see the outdoor spaces with big TVs set up at the bars near the arena, and all the jerseyed-up fans getting ready to have a few cold ones and watch their team at 1:00 on a long weekend Saturday afternoon. I hope the Oilers give 'em more to cheer for on Monday.

- Carol Schram

Sounds great, must be fun to see. Nice for us to get an 'inside the bubble' take. Thanks!
Enjoy your time there.

I'm not in the bubble - no reporters are, except for 3 writers per city from NHL.com.

We're allowed into the building via an entrance that's far from where the players go in, and we have to stay in our area on the arena's upper level.

KK 1-0 Habs

Made me think of the draft & ppl saying BPA all the way. If not for the Habs & Yotes we wouldn’t have Hughes. Still didn’t get why Holland took Zadina. Who cares about so called bad lottery luck lol

Better than where they'd set our expectations initially.

We were warned that we might not get anything more than coffee and water. But there's actually a fully-stocked beverage fridge that also has soft drinks. And there's tea!

Also, one concession stand is open for us, with food for purchase at typical arena prices. So far, I've had a kale caesar salad that was very good, an Italian sandwich that was fine, and a $5.50 bag of peanut M&Ms. They're doing daily specials, too. Thursday night was a steak dinner, which I did not have.

Cgy/Wpg starts at 8:30 local time tonight. I haven't really had dinner so I'll see what's on the menu tonight.

Thanks for your work Carol.
I'd be interested to know how the players find the atmosphere of playing in an empty arena and if 'momentum changes' are being felt like a regular playoff game.

I feel like the main school of thought so far has been 'Weird, but not *that* weird.'

But your point about momentum changes is well taken. I don't think we've seen a lead change yet today, have we? Is it harder to come from behind when you don't have the crowd behind you/against you?

I will see what I can learn...

I imagine the kale caesar was a bargain.
You'll have to hit Bulk Barn and smuggle a big bag of cashews in.
Kind of envious that you get to watch live hockey but you deserve it. Have fun, the Jets-Flames game should be a good one.

Thanks.

I did to go Safeway yesterday and pick up a few basics.

One positive about mask wearing and social distancing is that my breath is no longer a concern after something like a kale caesar salad. Don't have to worry about greens gettin' stuck in the teeth, either!

They definitely have some life left in them, Toews always gets some slack for not being offensive enough but he’s been one of the best two-way centers in the league for a decade.

Kid has more Stanley Cups than Joe Sakic and Mario Lemieux.

That reasoning would make Henri Richard the greatest player ever & nobody would ever beat him.

Hot dogs and sports just go hand in hand, it’s not a true experience unless you’re indulging in a gourmet dog

My last game i went to we got there nice n early for happy hour which was only 1/2hr long. $8 for a can of beer & only can buy 1 at a time. Next was 2 20oz IPA on tap over $23. Lost interest in ever having a beer at the game.

Ya well, Lefty is rich, has 2 houses and a boat (no stereo tho), so he's not restricted by things like 'cost'
