There is always another place for what doesn’t belong in here.

What’s wrong with having a hockey blog that’s mainly hockey discussion or debate or arguments? Sure some other stuff is ok but some stuff goes to the extent of unacceptable & far too personal to the extent ppl lose perspective of why we are here in the 1st place. I don’t dislike anyone here & enjoy ppl being different with different opinions. I wouldn’t wanna be Makita telling ppl stuff they should already know. A thankless job but I’m grateful he does it.

Great post Nightie, you captured the gist of it. Mak's sick of the adult daycare as well. Game tomorrow.

I never understood trying to protect the stock market at the expense of the general public. There's such a disconnect between wall street and main street.

With a proper response most of NA could be wide open right now.

Capitalists don’t live in reality & never have. They believe without them it’s back to the stone age & us minions need them more than we need them. We are only the employee/labour force to do their bidding.

Anyone know any filthy rich humble ppl?

Do you know what's crazy at my work? With probably thousands laid off across the network they've actually hired more executives.......with stock options.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. At one time companies were overloaded in executives. Then the cost cutting purge came along. Now it’s reversed itself. You know this.

considering going to Kitimat for the LNG...

Largest project in Canada.
14 in 7 days out.
10hr shift with 2-1/2hr breaks.
Living in a camp of 4500 ppl.
Urine test to get on site. That’s ok.
No weed even though it’s legal.
No parking so only flown in & out.
Approximate 145k/yr 90k take home.
Could be 2-3yrs work or more.
No complaint here other than 2 weeks of no life away from home then 1 week to catch up on laundry & chores & a little us time.

This might be my retirement fling. Still unsure if I want to do it or just status quo & work around the province on shutdowns. Money isn’t everything & the trade off it means.

Now I come to Reuby with Kitimat his home town...

Sure the influx of work is a boon to Kitimat.
Sure it helps the economy for all of BC.
Even helps the entire country.

How do you feel about it Reuby with the invasion of so many workers? Pros & Cons.

My opinion being from a small northern community is that it would depend on how the workers integrated with the community. If they're strictly on site and precautions are taken with local deliveries to the site then it should be a non-issue. If they're out on the town eating and drinking it's a different story.

2 kinds of ppl out there. The one who works eats sleeps & goes home for furlough. The other cannot stay put & always on the make for fun & partying. In the middle it’s beer runs & back to camp unless someone takes orders. In the early going it’s rather tame but eventually it’ll be as I describe. Covid wise it will be very well controlled other than idiots when on furlough being idiots.

Then I wouldn't be cool with unless they kept the camp separate. I mean there are plenty of dry camps out there, just set up a beer garden somewhere FFS if necessary.

If they had the run of the town I'd feel that it was invasive. I wouldn't want 100 foreign (to the area) workers coming to my neighbourhood, let alone thousands.

I believe the camp is very near the job site & the town minutes away. All camps are so called dry camps these days. Guys drink but for the most part are quiet or face the camp committee & sayonara.

As for the town nothing stops anyone from roaming around freely. Overall most ppl are respectful but there’s is always the mental midgets who either do what they want or are outright ignorant. Example is a fellow brother i’ve known for decades spits constantly. He’s not stupid but he had to be told what the implications could be. The male mentality is out there & as many know at times one could be talking to a rock or getting someone in your face defending their stupidity. It’s not common but it invariably will occur.

Those conditions are no problem. What is tough is 2 weeks in 1 out commitment for over a year maybe up to 3yrs or so. Lifestyle goes out the window. Comes down to 2 lifestyles every 3 week segment. Prison with pay & a real life lol

Last job was start of this year on nights.
6:30pm-5am for 8 weeks every 2nd Friday off. In town & not much of a life. Shutdowns one can see the light at the end of a tunnel. A mega project seems endless.

The pro's of this project are obvious, as many of us locals are working on this project,,as we should be,. The community has been in favour of this project for about 20 years now, lead by the Haisla First Nations, who have actively pursued this around the world.
The cons are definitely the workers integrating into the population, by occupying up a lot of the spaces in the bars, restaurants golf courses etc.
With the community being as small as it is, it makes for some uncomfortable times, whenever having to leave my bubble outside of work.
If anything, this project is helping the Alberta economy as much as it is helping BC's economy, as most of the companies are Albertan as are a lot of the workers.
For some reason, it is essential that this project has out of country workers, including the US.
I won't go on and on about it, as non-hockey talk, is being frowned upon lately.
Look forward to meeting up with you, when you get here.

Union sector is BC trades 1st then Canada then NA then international so you must be referring to the non union sector. Fluor is who our call is for. Idk the breakdown % or contracts of the work in regards to union & non union. Albertan non union workers/contractors take many jobs away from BC ppl up north on many sites as a matter of fact. US workers tend to be management aka engineers & not allowed to touch a tool at any time.

Yes i’m looking forward to meeting you.in person. Been over 30yrs since I last worked in your parts. A Eurocan shutdown.

As for non hockey I hearya but we are on Nighthawk non hockey game hours now lol

Fluor is definitely the gig you want in on. One of the Fitter GF's i know a bit from working at a different project. It has been a decent group of people where i am at, so fa, all things considered.
