Actually what it is, is ignorance of stats. The reason why the Yotes rank where they do in a lot of those stats categories is not because they aren't good defensively, they most definitely are. It's because they aren't good offensively. Tanner has missed the boat again showing his inability to effectively evaluate teams using the stats he holds so dear.

Also, you don't choose a lineup based on talent. It's not the draft. You choose based on the effectiveness of a player. Something the blogger needs to learn.

And Stepan/Keller/Crouse has been the best line. One thing I think you miss in your analytics is the idea that the NHL thrives off of pairs, and often the third person is meant to complement the main pair. So in this case if Stepan and Keller are rolling, Crouse will get more minutes. You don’t replace him because you have other pairs you are trying to win with (Kessel/Schmaltz, Dvorak/Hall).

Anyways...game just got done and while it was closer than it needed to be, Coyotes looked like a playoff team. You underestimate them as a whole, but you are spot on that Kuemper and Hall were the two best players on the ice (with Josi deserving some votes too).
