Regarding the Senators number 3 + 5 picks, 2020 may be the strongest draft pool in history. We have heard that the top 5 picks will be Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle, Drysdale, Rossi or Raymond. However this could be thrown out the window due to Quinn being the fastest rising forward and Sanderson being the fastest rising defenseman. History shows that these risers generally get picked a lot higher than the average fan expects. Ottawa will land two elite players, maybe not who we expect.

If both the sens pick fell out of top 3 I wouldn’t have been surprised if they went with Quinn at 6. Even at 5 I think there’s a solid chance. He’s a local boy with the resume to back it up, only problem is he’s likely a year or two away which may not fit the sens criteria

Also, there are EASILY 5 better players than Quinn......almost every ranking either has him right at 10, or outside of the top 10

They'll draft big and safe. Just imagine 2 more Brady Tachuck type W that'll score 25-30g a year and no fast tracking.

Byfield, Raymond or Rossi and leverage those 2nd rounders to move up with the islanders pick for Quinn!

I think Holtz is better then Raymond just my opinion 🤷‍♂️
Plus we will have Byfield Norris brown white not to mention chlapik tierny
Why pick Rossi who’s another C

I think there’s a good chance both Norris and White move to the wing. Also, no reason Rossi can’t shift to Wing at least to start his career

Offence wins games, defense wins champinshops.

Having Weirenski and Seth Jones shows how CBJ can beat a highly skilled team like the leafs.

Draft Drysdale 5th overall. Sign Joel Edmundson

2021 - 2022 Ottawa Senators D combos

Thomas Chabot - Jamie Drysdale
Joel Edmundson - Nikita Zaitsev/Lassi Thomson
Erik Brannstrom - Jacob Bernard Docker
Christian Wolanin - Artem Zub

This Sens defense group looks pretty weak to me, even weaker if Ottawa picks 2 forwards at 3 and 5! I believe in taking the best player available over a positional need but the Senators aren’t going to go advance if most of the play is in their end of the ice for the next few years.

Detroit’s biggest need is offense so Drysdale and Sanderson should be available at number 5. I agree that defense wins championships so I hope the Senators pick one of these D Men which would definitely speed up their rebuild.

I agree with what you're saying but you still benefit greatly from having 1 or 2 studs. Chabot is 1, but the rest of the D don't scare me (if I'm the opposition)

Why sign Edmundson? It's time Wolanin gets a permanent spot in the line-up.

Hard to watch Mark Stone.....but crazy watching Bishop vs Lehner, when both goalies were so valued in 2013.

Thanks for the half assed response to my question.

Didn't watch a second of the "play-in" games. Never felt so disconnected from NHL action. Guess that is the price you pay for having a crappy season. That clearly wasn't enough to the NHL since they clearly wanted a "play-in" team to win the draft lottery.

So here we are. Daily debate of who the Sens should take with picks 3 and 5 that will continue until October.

I know people will say "it is what it is" but as a hardcore hockey fan, it's difficult to show any excited interest in a league that says "Your team doesn't get any bonus games and we are going to take away your chance at a consolation prize too and give it to team that gets bonus games."

This league is laughing stock when it comes to fan retention. The lockouts still sting and this hiatus and flub on the lottery has the same feel. I feel gullible to keep coming back after all these years.

Yep, of all the trades even on the day they happened. Stone was the only one i lamented. It was a very poor organization decision,he would have been perfect here for the next 7 years...c'est la vie.

It's always been crazy to me the amount of quality talent that are in the NHL that left the Sens over the years. Most teams have 2 or 3 guys like that, but the Sens could make a legit roster most years of the quality former players playing elsewhere.

I don't care who's on D if the F are not an important part of it you have no team defense. That requires the right players and structure and I don't see that happening with the Sens. At least not next season.

I know it's fashionable to bash the organization, but I'm getting fed up with people who can't seem to process that Stone didn't want to stay in Ottawa. It wasn't the organization's decision, it was a player who wanted to play on a competitive team during his prime years. Now you could argue that the organization made that decision a lot easier for Stone by trading Karlsson, Duchene, Hoffman, Brassard, and Dzingel... but then you're really just trying to argue against the rebuild, which is another matter entirely. Say what you want, I guess, but at the end of the day there's absolutely no evidence that Dorion could have somehow made Stone sign a 7-year deal in the midst of a full teardown/rebuild by just paying him a bit more money.
