The coaches responsibility is to win the game. Not dole out ice time to appease a blogger. Anytime a team lacking offense like the Yotes are gets out to an early lead, the ice will be tilted. That's why you factor in game effects when looking at shot and chance metrics.

Apparently the Leafs only lost Game 1 because of the refs. According to Jimmy... Do you still think Seth Jones is the most overrated defenseman in the NHL, Jimmy?

I hate to embarrass you Tanner, but hockey is not exclusively 5-on-5. The game had a lot of penalties, which led to lots of PP, PK, and 4-on-4 time. Taylor Hall played 11:33 minutes at even-strength. What you fail to state is that Hall also played over 6 minutes on the PP, and even 19 seconds on the PK. In total he played 17:56, which was just a few seconds less than Keller and Stepan. So what was the magic number that Tocchet should have aimed for - 20 minutes? 22 minutes? Like you clearly don't understand the game. When Hall logs 90 seconds on the PP, as a coach you can't throw out you #1 line on the next shift. So guys that he trusts like Richardson go out and give 45 seconds. Again, maybe if you played the game or watched it closely you would understand that better. Your numbers on Dvorak were also misleading. You stated 8:34 at 5-on-5. Well he had another 1:25 of 4-on-4, plus 6:04 on the PP and 19 seconds on the PK. rong. He played 10 minutes, not 8:34. In total he played 16:22, which is just 20 seconds less than his season average. I also noticed you didn't mention Grabner. You mocked Tocchet for playing him. How fitting that he scored the game-winning goal.

If you are going to base everything on stats, you might want to take a few minutes to understand them.

Kool.....if you start bogging down this blog with common sense quotes and stats based on actual hockey content...well...you will just have to leave. This is Tanners blog. Let him make up and cherry-pick all the stats he wants to keep plugging the "Leafs are superior to all" and "Coyotes are nothing but goaltending". It is his relentless year-after-year approach to being right.

Say it enough, maybe the world will believe you.

Not to be political, but rather like a certain president that Jimmy keep flogging.

Imitation the sincerest form of flattery....????? hmmmmmmm

Indeed. It's hilarious how Jimmy continuously doubles down on his own stupidity. Just take the L. But there's Jimmy running his yap like a crack addicted raven.

James Tanner: Coyotes Win, but There Are Problems

Glad you brought that robertson chance on his first shift. Obviously normally a shot from that close would be a high chance of scoring. As seen yesterday, while he was in a good position, he didnt do anythimg dangerous. The game never had to move an inch and he still stopped the puck. So while statistically it may be seen as a high danger chance, anyone watching could see it was a miss.

You say the jackets game is unsustainable, yet thats the type of game they played all season, and longer. Thats almost like thats the definition of sustainability. Being able to maintain the same style of play over an extended period of time. Maybe you didn't notice bit jackets dont have many goal scorers so they generally win games that are low scoring. Hence, their style of play. They play sound defensively, keep the puck along the boards in the ozone, and they force their opponents to make mistakes. Very sustainable for this jackets team.

It's up to the leafs to make it unsustainable. They need to find the holes in their play, start actually skating, hit columbus with a harder forecheck, and quit passing so much in the ozone. The jackets box out their net fairly well while clogging up the passing lanes. The leafs hopes are shots that either get deflected, or create rebounds for easy tap ins.

Leave it to James to come out with all the usual excuses after a loss.

Leafs have no answer as Columbus shuts down Toronto's high powered offence, Did Marner play last night? Nylander was just as bad except for a couple of shifts, the Bluejackets will only get better as this series goes on, Dubas built this team for Ringette not for the style of game Columbus plays, Leaf fans just have to suffer for two more games and it will be over.

I don't really understand this viewpoint. The Leafs were the better team last night, they got one power play, and Matthews despite nearly scoring a hattrick, was held off the score sheet

Good luck replicating that formula Columbus. Plus, I agree, Marner and Nylander and Tavares were all noshows last night, and they likely will show up in game two.

despite nearly scoring a hat trick? Thought toronto lost 2 to 0? How'd matthews get 2 goals? Or is near a hat trick getting 1 goal? Oh, but wait. Wasn't the score 2-0? So how is scoring 0 goals almost getting a hat trick? Thats like saying toronto almost won the Stanley cup 3 years in a row because they played in the first round. Doesnt make sense.

what you don't understand, is this is too complicated.

like everything else in life, comrade tanner needs to focus on 1 thing and one thing only. even strength play in this case. anything more than that is too confusing.

I fully expected Tanner would acknowledge that the player he said shouldn't play had the game-winning shortie.

a few weeks ago youth hockey started back up down here.

my mother-in-law took my 7 year to a session recently. so my kid gets on the first sheet of ice he sees. only 2 people out there; grabner and his son.

grabner skates around with him for 5 minutes before he suggests to my kid that he was probably on the wrong sheet of ice

Please stop blogging. All your blogs are trash. It’s quite evident that is the general consensus. Not just from the fans here at Hockeybuzz but throughout the hockey world on the World Wide Web. Apparently reddit had an article on you and it was taken down. None the less here is the link.

One last thing I must say is your Twitter is absolute trash as well.

Do us all a favor and disappear!

That's an extremely low bar. If I watch the highlights, I watched more of the game than Tanner did.

What happened to the collective where we throw everything in a pot and share? jimmie? You have too many smokes and MUST give them to me to balance out the smoke inequalities of this situation.

Government intervention will be used to take away the smokes that you earned to give them to people like me who do not want to buy smokes any longer

you need to pay your fair share
