Morning Gents.

I am torn. i do not think this team will make any noise in playoffs and would love a shot at the number one. But don't want to see them lose.

If they get manhandled by whomever they play next do people still want a new coach? Retool?

Go Flames!

Morning

I would like them to move on as I would enjoy watching some more Flames summer hockey lol.

In terms of retooling I think they're coach is fine unless you want to go after a top name guy or a up and coming younger coach. Players wise I think we need a bigger bodied, faster skater, one who can win puck battles and retrieve pucks while forechecking on the top line with Lindholm and Gaudreau (unfortunately Mony out ). The third and fourth line were fine yesterday, you could argue switching Lucic with a younger, faster, more skilled player in the future of course. Defensively, I think we are fine right now with 1 or 2 decent younger players waiting to get in the lineup and hopefully we can keep building some defensive prospect depth but the ideal defensive lineup to model ours after would be Carolina's.

If we can get fair value for whoever we would choose to trade yes then retool, if its fire sale pricing no. Beating the depleted Jets will mean nothing if we are easily beaten in the round of 16.
Success for this team IMO will be defined by winning in the round of 16 and at minimum playing a very competitive series in the round of 8. Anything short of that would demand a serious look in the mirror.

You're thinking the same as me as a Jets fan. I didn't want the play in series since I didn't see the Jets as a contender. I however didn't want to see them knocked out by the Flames. Whoever loses the series is going to be the potential real winner at the draft. I feel both teams are not Stanley Cup teams but are not far off considering some of the young talent both teams have.

You never know how things will turn out when a team gets hit with the injury bug but I just don't see these teams in the same category as a healthy Colorado or Boston.

That's an absurd way to look at things as a Flames fan. You're underrating them and overrating everyone else in the West. The Flames showed last year that they're an elite team when everything is firing on all cylinders. They're scoring four goals a game against the best goalie in the league. They're getting production throughout the lineup. Monahan has looked like hot garbage but is still somehow leading the team in points and is +2.

Since January first, they're right with everyone else in the West points-wise even with Rittich being one of the worst goalies in the league. The West is wide open. Colorado is probably slightly ahead, but everyone else is right behind them. If the Flames show up to play and don't get let down by their goalies, they can beat anyone.

Some of the best Flames memories that most of us probably have come from a team that was a much, much bigger underdog. Last year, no one was even in the same league as the Lightning. The media defined best teams usually don't make it through.

I hope you're correct but if they take another duece will you concede that change is needed?

Unless they're getting Hall, there's no point in making big changes until Gaudreau decides what he's doing in the future. They have a young core with decent contracts that they'll stick with for at least another couple years. It doesn't make sense trading any of them because they're not going to be getting anything back that'll help them right away. It's either stick with what they have for a couple more years or blow everything up.

It'd be nice if they could turn Monahan into something better, but that's pretty much impossible. Maybe Monahan, Pelletier, and a first for Barkov. I'm just going to pretend Barkov wants out of Florida to make that possible.

If they can get Hall at a somewhat reasonable price and trade JG for some top notch pieces we would be a better team.

Waiting for JG to walk for nothing would lose Tre his job.

If I'm the Florida's GM I like that trade but could swap Pelletier with Kylington as he has a little more XP. And if the Flames lose the play in series and gave a unprotected 1st round pick, i think you gotta pull the trigger on that.

Without success this summer status quo just wont cut it and I think the only ones who will be safe are Chucky, Lindy, Rasmus Mang & Dube because of their contracts/age/upside and those on the hot-seat will include Tree.
Hey I love this team and have been a season ticket holder for 17 years! I hope they do well this summer but they have been consistently inconsistent for way too long and the core of this team will have had a fair shot.

Has anyone heard/read about how serious Forborts injury is? Just hoping we don’t have to interrupt our d pairings as they’ve been playing pretty solid for the most part...

I can't believe the NHL botched the lottery so bad fans are cheering for their teams to lose playoff games...although I get the feeling some people are just changing their tune because their team is getting an ass kicking

Heck we’re winning this series and like Duran said at the beginning I’m torn as well. Even if we were to lose the lottery a player available in the 10-15 slot is as good as a top 10 in most drafts.

I would say most of us are just scared to get spanked in the first round since it’s what we’ve come to expect out of this core

I won’t deny that last years team was good enough to contend and had they not dropped a deuce against Colorado they may have been able to make it deep, but for that to happen again our entire roster would have to have career years once again which is something that’s not super likely.

If we can bring in Lehner in the off-season I would be willing to give it another shot with this core but if that doesn’t work insanity is doing the same things over again and expecting different results.

I actually feel kind of bad for you guys. While I don’t think the jets deserve 1st it was your odds that won the pick and now if you guys lose tomorrow you will have to go through another lottery to try and win that pick again. Probably the team that got the most screwed after Detroit out of that sham.
