The power play sucked in Pittsburg

A good hire for sure. He always frustrated me when he played against the Devils. Will be nice to have him on our side of the bench. Just wondering if Lindy will retain Nass to Run the D.
Next thing to do is buy out Corey, he brings nothing to the team what so ever.

For all the tools he had to use in Pittsburgh... the powerplay was only strong when Kessel was running it.

But maybe his style will work in NJ

I wouldn’t get too excited. His PP was inconsistent at best and his player deployment was in the not good to bad range. Sure it’s on the players to score but the coaches need to put them in the best position to succeed, he did not.

I have always looked at Mark Recchi as the prototypical Old School Devil mode that Lou Lamoriello loves. And that will prove great for the Devils players.

I'm going to assume it's progress and be happy. But no idea if it's really a good move. Still. Much

It was complicated in Pgh. with recchi as a player in the mid 2000's, he routinely tortured sidney unnecessarily. it was not in good fun like other veterans, it was mean spirited. so naturally sid never warmed to him when he came back as a coach. Recchi was def a mario hiring, not a sullivan hiring. It was a condition of being offered the head coaching job for both johnston and eventually sullivan. In addition, sullivan ultimately ran the PP. Maybe with recchi having more decisions on the personnel out there on the PP he can really show what he can do. Sullivan just did not want to try anyone else on the half wall where kessel was. maybe recchi will have better flexibility.

HOF player, tons of experience. the players should buy in and the old recchin' ball should be flexible in personnel sets.

With our dud head coach, the assistants don't matter.

We still have Ruff as our head coach, so Recchi will be limited to having an impact only on PP. Still annoyed over Ruff as Devs choice.

So, more of the Pittsburgh pipeline?

Not a bad hire, but agree....doesn’t matter when the coach is marginal

yup. the numbers say it all- 1st (26.2 percent) in 2017-18, 5th (24.6 percent) in 2018-19 and 16th (19.9 percent) this year. What was the difference? No Kessel.
Meanwhile, 4-5 of Pitt's PP consisted of players better than anyone the Devils could put out lol.
Doomed. Color me, not inspired. But at least he did well with the weapons he had.

Outside of the numbers and the players I'm wondering if Recchi's PP was considered well structured. I mean results are the point but did it generate a lot of shots and quality chances etc.

These things are hard to judge. Devils are a bad defensive team but have a very strong PK. The Lightning for years have had great offense but not impressive PP results. Not sure if that's still accurate.

Good thing Nas is back to coach our stellar defense!.. with a stellar defensive head coach to supervise the operation! I don't think it could objectively be any worse.

The only silver lining is we're not expecting to compete this year anyway. Hopefully they'll all be gone by next season and it won't be too much time wasted/development hampered.

Was it announced that Nas would be coaching the D? I missed that?

Ya the PP wasn't as lethal as people had thought in pitts. Pitts really is a dominant cycling team, and having time and space seemed to make them a little to relaxed. There was no urgency from their stars. 5v5 they were terrific. I don't see that being as big of an issue here. Recchi is a presence, role model, and motivator that this club needs. He's done it all, and hopefully he can bring some of that championship mentality over to this young squad. Plus he will be a great guy to lean on if we ever play pitts in the playoffs.

As much as I wanted others as our head coach we clearly need to give Lindy respect and wait to see what he can do for us. The guy clearly comes with a ton of experience and has helped many players grow along his career. There certainly could have been alot worse choices and will at least be happier not seeing Hynes around this locker room anymore....GOOD LUCK NASHVILLE!

Haha. Congrats to Lou on the nomination for top GM. I am very impressed that they are where they are today, but I really don't like the term on the contracts he has handed out. Win now, or his legacy in the Isles will be the boring/expensive geriatric squad.
