While the Bruins core is getting old, they are developing a young core as well to take the mantle. The window is still very much open and a tear down isn't necessary. They have franchise players on both ends right now that are very young. Need to find the centers of the future but right now Patrice, Krejci, Coyle, Kuraly is about as good as it gets down the middle.

The D-Core between McAvoy, Gryz and Carlo all being around 25 is solid. You hope Debrusk can continue to grow and get some consistency.

You don't need to overreact because you lost to another great team that wanted it more in a bubble tournament.

The window is still open but yes we need to consider the age of the group...
To find some scoring player on that second line as been a probleme over the last few years....That is the main concern in my opinion....

I think it might be time to save money on defense (let Krup go) and invest on a good right winger... It as been proven that you dont win a cup with only 1 good line. Its a start but you need some depth.....
If we can't sign Krup (witch I think is whats going to happen) I just hope we get something in exchange that will help us out to rebuild a second line. It sucks to loose a guy like that for nothing because we dont have the $$$ to give him...

Again if I have to invest 6M I put my cash on a winger witch is more urgent than our defense...

I agree on the centers, put them against anyone in the league. I actually get a bit tired of hearing how "old" our core is. Let's take a look at Bergy's stats the last few years...they are better than ten years ago when he was "in his prime". The same can be said for Marchy...they both appear to be like fine wine and just get better with age. The one knock on Bergy would be health...the abdominal/groin issue has been lingering for a few years now and has impacted his post season effectiveness.

Disagree that we don't need help on defense. Exactly half of our starting d-men are 5'9"-5'11" and less than 190lbs. Works in the regular season but get manhandled in the post season. We need some size on both the front end and the back end.

After watching the Lightning eliminate the Bruins in two subsequent series, I think it's obvious where the difference/problem is.

The 2011 Bruins who eliminated the Bolts in that epic 7-game series had Lucic, Thornton, and a whole different physicality element. The backend was bigger and meaner outside of Chara. There was more size, snarl, and imposing their will.

This Bruins roster still has the talent. Pasta and McAvoy are reason alone to be hopeful, but there is no pushback any more. The Lightning's bigger bodies pushed them around and the Bruins just didn't seem to have an answer for it. In the past, Lucic would have beat somebody's ass to send a message at least.

It's not all sandpaper though, the Bruins got killed possession-wise at 5v5. That's a different ballgame but probably one aspect of not dominating play physically.

Well yes, technically he is still under contract until something like Oct 9th or there-abouts but it is not like any team would be a trade partner on a player that has less than a month left on contract...that's just silly (even PC wouldn't do that ).

Teams have done this in the past with regularity. If you think you can get a guy signed, you something small for their rights so that you're the only one that can negotiate with them for a month.

Can you point to the last "significant" UFA to fit this bill?

The Winnipeg Jets were always going to be a longshot to retain the services of Kevin Hayes.

With that in mind, it came as little surprise when the Jets shipped the negotiating rights to the pending unrestricted free agent centre to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night for a fifth round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

With the Jets not expected to sign Hayes before July 1, general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff did what he could to recoup an asset in the deal.

Coyle should make a solid Bergeron replacement. No, I don’t mean he’s as good lol but Coyle brings the 200 ft game and you can’t tell me he wouldn’t produce centering guys like 63-88. He’s a good #2

Team needs a future #1 center badly. It could be Studnicka but I think that’s asking a little too much of him. I think with Coyle/Stud/Frederic/Beecher they shouldn’t have any trouble icing really good 2-4 centers

They could probably use another top 6 winger. Pasta, JD and Kase is a pretty good starting point for the future top 6. I think there’s a million guys in the system right now that project as nice middle/bottom 6ers

Defense is golden. Having Mac and Carlo on the right side must be the envy of the league. That’s the hardest position to fill. They should anchor this D for a long time. I’m a big Gryz fan too. If he was 2” taller he’d get a lot more attention. Hopefully Vaak and the other D prospects can fill out the lineup. They could definitely use more ruggedness here

Goalies are a crapshoot but between Swayman and Vladar the B’s are about as set as can be

All in all, I’m pretty confident in the B’s future. If they can find/develop one more top line forward to go with Pasta they should remain contenders

We'll agree to disagree on defense. We need some size and snarl badly otherwise we will get pushed around like we did against the Blues and the Lightning. Carlo took a step back this season in my opinion and even more in the post season. He had developed (finally!) some snarl last season that was almost gone this season. The guy is 6'5" (but still needs more meat on his bones) and he should play like it.

I wasn’t impressed with Carlo in the bubble but I’m willing to give him a pass. He was huge in the cup run last year. Easy to forget he’s only 23, it could be several years before he hits his peak. I think with age will come more toughness as well. To me he seems to have made an effort to be harder to play against every year

Definitely not opposed to adding some snarl on defense. I’m really only attached to Mac, Carlo and Gryz long term. I think Lauzon definitely has potential to be a rugged top 4 guy
