Assuming Arizona paid his $3M bonus, which is uncertain with the issues they're having, I believe his salary this season, the final season of his contract, is only $2M.

Me: the Sabres should go after Eric Staal. His contract and term are perfect for our situation.
Sabres HockeyBuzz: he has a NTC and would never come to Buffalo. He wants to retire in Minnesota. You’re so stupid you don’t know anything.
Me: (Sigh, I am dealing with idiots)
SH: you’re a moron.

With one trade Adams does what botts wasnt able to do in 3 years, acquire a 2nd line center. lol

Unless Adams lucks into Cozens being a legit top 6 center at 20 years old, he’s going to have to do it twice.

Or get a good 3C and top 6 winger

No but Monahan potentially was.

I’d also have rather gone the Kerfoot route.

The dude has one year left in his career going to a basement franchise.

Are we positive he’s not going to just ride this out and end up playing 30 games?

THIS!!!!

Skinner Eichel Cozens
Olofsson Staal Reinhart
Casey Kahun Vesey?
Girgensons Lazar Moulson

I would prefer Cozens to be in Vesey's spot and have another RWer added somehow but Cozens and Eichel together is interesting

- Stripes77

what the hell is mouslon doing back on the team?

Cross that bridge when you get there.

In terms of the second part of the post the offseason is still young.

It’s good value. I don’t like the age and 1 year term.

I’ll take it. Can’t argue with getting him for Johansson

So I take it youre the only one upset about the Staal trade. I am not counting on Cozens to be poop. Most likely will be a career 3rd line center.

But for 2020/2021, they have a legit 2nd line 50 point center. Now he needs to acquire another top 6 winger.

I dont care Eichel Reinhart
Skinner Staal need to acquire
Olofsson Cozens Kahun

How has the youth been doing? Too often during rebuilds teams are filled with no vets. It is vital to have some vets that can bring consistent play and leadership on the Ice. This was a perfect move.

I think it was the level below.

Perfect would’ve been getting a center with term for one of the D men.

It’s excellent value for Johansson.

I pray this isn’t “the move” up front

Holy S, a trade. 36 year old Staal > any other 2C option on the roster and didn’t cost anything.

Wonder if 13,000 Bills fans can give Bills home field advantage in Miami.

Eh. No I was for a second. It’s a good trade. I can’t argue the value.

What I wanted was absolutely no question that we had two capable centers for the next few years. I love Cozens, but it’s still very far from decided he’s a legit 2C in a year. Definitely possible but still unknown. I was hoping they inserted some certainty into the lineup. Still can

i hope there’s another move to ensure he isn’t in that spot this year.

If there is I’ll be gravy.

This just feels like the “big move” to me

- sbroads24

Should we be making a “big move” right now anyways?

Adams is a rookie GM with no experience

I’d rather him make no big moves than do something dumb like Pick8 for Gaudreau, etc etc

Alright. Done being negative.

It’s absolutely good value for Johansson.

Solid trade.

Just get some long term you g forwards here

- sbroads24

Now this is a good post
And entirely reasonable

Yeah. I’m down with it.

I’ll be honest I thought Staal had a worse year than he had.

It’s really good value.

I just need there to be another big forward add

If they're going to spend 6.5 then spend it on a 2RW like Dadonov. That's adding 50 goals between Staal and Dadonov

Honestly. Good on Adams for seeing a gaping hole that’s been there for two years and doing SOMETHING about it. That’s incredibly promising

Is not good
And is overpaid

Also, why do we need more bottom6 players?

What I would do at this point:

Montour for McCann or Kerfoot

Sign either Toffoli or Craig Smith in FA.

Olofsson-Eichel-Toffoli/Smith
Skinner-Staal-Reinhart
Kahun-McCann/Kerfoot-Cozens
Thompson-Asplund-Okposo

My only concern. Skinner and Staal did not mesh well together.
- ImThatGuy

They don’t have to play on the same line here
I’d do something like:

Skinner-Jack-Sam
Kahun-Staal-_____
Olofsson-Cozens-_____
Girgs-Larsson-Okposo
Lazar

Mitts & Tage are top contenders for those open spots obviously,
but I’d be looking to make moves for NHLers still to potentially fill those slots

Why is trading a Top4 RH defenseman (always in demand) for a 3rd liner (who we have plenty of,
a good idea?

For what purpose though?
It’s not gonna make us better than TB or BOS if we do something like pick8 for Gaudreau

If it’s for a good YOUNG player, then cool
But are those guys available?
Heck... if we can get Matty Tkachuk, then GREAT
But CGY would be crazy to move him
Maybe Boeser?
But idk what we’d have to give up

Who ya thinkin?
