Realistically Montour is a 3rd pairing RD here though
- sbroads24

Idc where he slots in
I’m talking about “value” dude

Top4 RH Defenseman >>> 3C (even a good one)

For what purpose though?
It’s not gonna make us better than TB or BOS if we do something like pick8 for Gaudreau

If it’s for a good YOUNG player, then cool
But are those guys available?
Heck... if we can get Matty Tkachuk, then GREAT
But CGY would be crazy to move him
Maybe Boeser?
But idk what we’d have to give up

Who ya thinkin?

- jdfitz77

Not sure. One of the Arizona forwards. Ehlers.

I want them to make that D for F trade that should’ve been done by JB

Why is trading a Top4 RH defenseman (always in demand) for a 3rd liner (who we have plenty of,
a good idea?

- jdfitz77

Glad you asked.

Montour is arbitration eligible and after this year is then UFA eligible.

His value takes a direct hit as the team looking to acquire him would need to be a team that is looking to extend him for longer than this season, or run the risk of losing him for nothing after this year. In addition, that said team would also have to protect him in the upcoming expansion draft, or they won’t which would be poor asset management unless there is really nothing of substance being given up for his services.

His underlying stats are also pretty sub par so unless he’s part of a package that includes much more from our end (which is completely possible and not out of the question) I would expect a middle 6 forward would be what the doctor ordered like a Jared McCann.

Could the Sabres package Montour with picks and prospects for a greater return ? Absolutely.

The more simplistic/realistic move, especially in this economy, is either a 1 for 1 deal or trading him for futures.

Ehlers would be amazing,
but WPG would be nuts to move him-
especially after this past season.
He was pretty awesome

Are their rumors about him again?
I haven’t been paying too much attn to hockey the last couple weeks

Honestly. Good on Adams for seeing a gaping hole that’s been there for two years and doing SOMETHING about it. That’s incredibly promising
- sbroads24

You mean good job Kim and Ralph.

Adams today during his press conference Confirmed he had to run this trade through pegula and Ralph first before accepting it.

Anyone that trades for Montour is gonna wanna keep him
That shouldn’t hurt his value like you suggest

I don’t think so anyways.....
but this could be a crazy offseason with all the weirdness that’s been happening

Yeah, reportedly they’re open to moving one of Laine or Ehlers for D.

Not that we need another LW,
but I’ve been an Ehlers fan for quite a while

Montour + for him?
Just don’t know what the “+” would have to be

Laine probably costs Monty + pick8,
but i don’t wanna move that pick

No clue. Ehlers is excellent. Would be our best winger.

At the end of the day,
Adams made a “good” (not “great”) trade

We’ll have to see how it all plays out,
but at least his 1st move was something that made SENSE, and filled a big NEED

Especially bc of the Cap situation,
there should be more guys like this available

I know it wasn’t a “big move”
But another trade or 2 like this could be just what we need

Still hope we keep pick8 though

Go Sabres!

I think it was the level below.

Perfect would’ve been getting a center with term for one of the D men.

It’s excellent value for Johansson.

I pray this isn’t “the move” up front

- sbroads24

Why trade a dman, when you can give up Johansson for Staal? Risto, Miller and/montour is not going to land you any player that is significantly better than Staal.

Because it’s actually bad to continue to let these D men rot away when you have 5 capable RD

Risto
Jokiharju
Miller
Montour
Borgen.

It’s just crazy how they’re all still here

Guerin also said of Victor Rask that the #mnwild "need to get him more playing time. He's a very, very capable center."

That would seem to indicate that Rask won't be bought out. I've mentioned a few times on recent podcasts I thought a buyout for him was unlikely

Bill.might be the next worst gm.

This is insane

WOW: "The last time the Browns played a full season without a coach or general manager change was when head coach Romeo Crennel and Savage stayed together from 2005 to 2008."

Holy hell

What I would do at this point:

Montour for McCann or Kerfoot

Sign either Toffoli or Craig Smith in FA.

Olofsson-Eichel-Toffoli/Smith
Skinner-Staal-Reinhart
Kahun-McCann/Kerfoot-Cozens
Thompson-Asplund-Okposo

- Pegullaville

People keep bringing up Kerfoot and he's just so mediocre and vanilla. He only produced points of any kind when he was part of a loaded Avalanche power play.

Otherwise, he's a 30 point player.

No thank you.

I think it's obvious the bolded will happen.

I'm still in shock Adams turned Johansson into Staal, without retaining any cap or having to add more.

Did he keep calling until Guerin finally said yes so Adams would leave him alone?

I looked up Dumba earlier today.

He's been pedestrian for at least the past 2 seasons.
