December is a few months and two teams are still playing hockey. Haven’t even had the draft or free agency yet.

We used to agree on most things beside Skinner, I think you’re letting your emotions cause overreactions a little to early here

- Pegullaville

I believe the season will begin on New Year's Day, not in December.

He said his family will adapt and they were very comfortable in their current situation.

He’s not happy. I personally don’t care if he is. It’s whatever.

I care that he very well could retire or find himself on IR halfway through this season if things aren’t going well and like Buffalo Sabre magic, have Casey Mittelstadt or another 19 years old at 2C.

So you basically believe he will tank the season and not try because...Berglund did the same?

You believe trading Marcus (frank)ing Johansson for Eric Staal wasn't at least somewhat about winning?

Has nothing to do with Berglund. Berglund had issues, and term on his deal.

The trade is great value. I hope they have a backup plan to Staal, because I have less than total faith he’s 100% on board with coming to a bad team for probably his last NHL season

You either didn't listen or are purposefully misrepresenting what he said.

What he actually said on the instigators was that he thinks he has at least a few years of hockey left in him. He said he's glad he's going to a real hockey market

Are you being sour because Botterill couldn't pull this off or are you genuinely upset about this trade? I dont get the negativity at all.

bills looked promising the three years before we got Sean

the sabres have not looked promising for 8 years other then a few hot starts in 2 of those years

15 years ago, sabres was must watch hockey

now, honestly for me it's an afterthought

I use to plan my social life based on when the sabres played, now I don't

pretty sure there is a lot of people like me out there

- navinrjohnson

What does the last 8 years have to do with the Adams administration though and what he may possibly do the next few months ?

Botterill wasn’t good. I don’t get why you think I want to champion him. He was bad. I didn’t think he was getting fired, and thought some of the criticism was weird, but he was t good.

B. The negativity is clear and to the point. They put a bandaid on a wound for a season. With an aging player who’s clearly not thrilled he was traded.

Some of you are way too easily satisfied, which is exactly what the Pegula’s love.

Pretty much. He’s not happy.

He was traded here 48 hours ago and said he doesn’t know much about the Sabres besides Jack being elite and his former teammate Skinner.

I look forward to him riding out this year

- sbroads24

I didn't hear any of what you're describing.

A) they've had time to process it and they're looking forward to the challenge

B) because he's been in the western conference

C) that's not the type of player or person he is

I don’t think anyone is happy standing pat.

I’m not going to freak out though until January.

If you want to continue to freak out feel free but I just thought I’d help you step back from the ledge as I know you’re a logical poster.

Freak out? A tad hyperbolic. I said I'm not impressed as many of you are, and his press conference was pretty meh

Your posts over the past 72 hours suggest differently.

I believe you want us to splurge on assets to make the big splash for Monahan whom is much worse defensively than Staal and provides slightly better offensive metrics.

Sometimes the big splash doesn’t get you far.

The Leafs made a big splash with Tavares and have since watched the Islanders win 3 playoff series to their 0.

Give me two more trades like the Staal one and we are well on our way here.

Staal is an improvement over Mojo.
Cozens is an improvement over Erod.
Kahun is an improvement over Sheary.

Get better with each move and we are well on our way.

To be fair.
to BE FAIR
TO BE FAIIIIRRRRRRRR.

We heard that all last off season that it was early and moves would be made. and then we ended up with the team we had and it was bad.

So you base all of your life’s decisions made today on outcomes from the past ?

Maybe I should stop and let it go and let you all vent, just thought I’d try to shine some optimism here

There's a new sheriff in town.

And his name is Kevyn Adams.

Y'all be cool.

How long will it take Ristolainen to actually show his full potential? 8 seasons? 9? With all the minutes he's played already?

I think we've already seen what he is and know it well.

- kingcong39

He’s logged top 10 minutes in the NHL for several years and had all the pressure of a #1 guy on his shoulders when he is a 3,4 guy. I think he flourishes in a 3 role

Staal is unlike any other breed of player we have seen here for a while. He may not be happy about the trade but he will not roll over and die. He will do all he can to win and mentor Eichel, like his buddy Kevyn did for him.

I wouldn't be surprised for him to extend 1 year for a 2 year total...maybe not immediately, and dependent upon how the season goes. He might like mentoring Cozens and maybe Mitts...who knows.

I’m just not impressed one bit until this franchise cares about winning instead of optics or saving money.

Staal is a fine add for one season in which the Pegula’s have put restrictions on what the GM can do

- sbroads24

They’ve been losing $$ on a yearly basis,
haven’t they?

Them caring about not losing $$$ is a dumb argument against them
Especially with not knowing if there will be fans next season or not,
making a sound financial budget is SMART
And I’m guessing just about every team is doing so

You’re trying WAY too hard to be negative,
following a trade you’ve admitted was good

How about we just see how this all plays out
Very few guys are “happy” to be traded & uproot their families
Especially when it’s unexpected

We got a good middle6 guy who can help lead this team, & show them how to win,
at a position we REALLY needed

Happy to see Lazers is signed. I’ve been a very vocal fan. He lends to the solution not the problem. Works his ass off
