Barzal is a god in transition, but his overall impact is a lot less than you would expect
- Rexypoo

He has been referred to as Connor McDavid light. Imagine him on the power play with Ehlers, Connor and Scheifele.

Good job Hellebyuck!!!

Well deserved! Really, he should have received serious Hart consideration, although I realize it's not a goalie thing.

He finished 6th, which is still pretty good.

Islanders would never let him go though.
Pulock though will be hard them to sign as Barzal will take all
The money they have and then some

TSN was discussing a NYI block-buster on today's site, mentioned Laine helping the Isles power play.

Can't see the Islanders giving up their # 1 center, when centers are so hard to come by.

Me neither, but it's fun to dream sometimes. Oilers royally messed up trading that pick as part of a package to get Griffin Reinhardt. They could have drafted both Barzal and Aho in addition to McDavid.

That would definitely have been a franchise altering draft.

Or Boston using 3 picks to take Zboril, DeBrusk, and Senyshyn ahead of Barzal, Connor and Chabot. Where would the Bruins be today ?

More importantly, if rumours are true that the Jets are shopping Laine, what do you think would be a fair return for him?

Sort of goes to show you just how hard it is to predict futures of 18 yr-olds is, (even if you're a scout), doesn't it? I do remember, though, that the TV panel were very surprised with these three picks

I would hope for: #1 - a proven centre with term (still an RFA); or #2 - a more veteran C that is locked up for a few years; and #3 a proven RD with term; and a prospect that might replace Laine in a year or two.

I guess, in other words, my first priority is the #2C - and any others depending on quality of C we get back.

If dealing with Isles, for example, I would be happy with Cirelli (who they obtain from Tampa Bay), plus Ryan Pulock and Oliver Wahlstrom. We would have to eat a contract from the Isles.

Too much? Not enough? Possible?

But, dammit, we need that #2 Centre!!! (as we all know)

here's the big thing Ultimate that you can not forget!!! if it is true and that's a big if!! the Jets are shopping or listening to Laine offers, THEY WILL NOT BE LOOKING FOR A "FAIR" DEAL!!!! they will be looking for a team to pay up!!!

Laine is Jets property for what 3 more years!!! that's not nothing, and anyone who says, oh they don't want another Trouba situation, why???? I think we all feel we made out ok in the Trouba trade and that was a player saying I'll only go this ONE TEAM!!! and we still made out good.

there is no rush or panic, nor should there be to trade Laine. pay up or go away is what I say

how are they getting Cirelli?? but yes, id take that deal.

maybe more realistic from the Islanders ( without them having to acquire Cirelli first) is Nelson, Pulock and Whalstrom.

but here is why teams rarely win these trades.

This trade would "probably" make us better for the next 2 years but Nelson although an improvement to our team in the 2C slot is not an all star and will start to decline quickly in a couple years, Pulock looks great right now but in a couple years may just be a 4-5 guy, don't know and Whalstrom has not progressed as he was supposed and may never be more than bottom 6. so!! you have a 2 -3 year window to win the cup and if don't and Laine scores 40 goals 7 times over the next 10 years we walk away looking like giant idiots.

I'll just add, Teemu scored 537 goals AFTER leaving Winnipeg, we do not want history to repeat itself here.

Teemu first 4 years in Winnipeg - 147 goals
Patty first 4 years in Winnipeg - 138 goals

yes Laine did that in more games bit was also significantly younger than Teemu was.
