that's a complete appropriate approach to these new vaccines, and political pressure to push any covid-vaccine is potentially endagering vaccine acceptance in general. a very bad development, and high-risk strategy.

my decision framework for me and my family: vaccines that would be safe(st) to receive (and assuming some form of protection against at least severe disease), and that look promising atm are:

1/ BCG vaccine (have to look at BCG strain though) -- from Q2 2021 onwards
2/ any other existing vaccine that would show to elicit non-specific immunity -- from Q2/Q3 onwards
3/ any other vaccine that will come 'out of the blue' (not mentioned now as any of the 'front-runners') that will show good results end 2021 -- from Q1 2022 onwards
...
...
...
4/ Sputnik V - Gam-COVID-Vac -- from Q3 2021 onwards
5/ Curevac mRNA Covid-vaccine -- from Q3 2021 onwards
6/ J&J ad26.cov2.s -- from Q3 2021 onwards
7/ other current frontrunners (e.g. GSK/Sanofi; Moderna; Sinovac; Cansino, Clover, Merck, Inovio, Pfizer) -- from Q3 2021 onwards

in other words; very unlikely we'll be able to roll out a reliable vaccine that would be protect and safe before Sept 2021.

I haven’t reason to assume the Canadian government would politically intervene in the approval processes here. I’d take something that was approved in Canada.

This may sound incredibly selfish, but I wish the scientific community would quit focusing on a COVID-19 vaccine, and instead dedicate their efforts to finding a cure for Muzzin's life-ending injury.

A few days after the Stanley Cup is awarded, I'll do a new thread where everyone can evaluate their picks.

Anyone know if I can get this on the main page?

Hey Mr. Augello, could you assist some long time Leafs fans with this?

Muchas gracias

He get’s paid the type of money where he should be driving a line, but he can’t.

He can’t really do anything other than go to the net and get sloppy goals. Which I’ll admit, he’s become pretty good at.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I disagree, he is not paid to 'drive a line'.. Marner/Matthews/Tavares get paid the type of money to drive a line..

Thornton could play third line. You don’t need to be fast with that passing skill.

If I understand it right, Canadian gov't has deals in place with Moderna (Canadian company) and Pfizer.
There will obviously be an incredible amount of pressure on governments to 'take the first to market vaccine'.
My point is that any vaccine without at least 12months of clinical trial follow up (on both safety as well as potential protection) would be pushed politically, and not based on mere standard scientific processes around vaccine development.

The reason why BCG is #1 on my list because it has a 100+ year safety track record, and there are some solid scientific studies that back a potential non-specific immunity effect of BCG (against other pathogens). Various BCG - Covid trials have started in March to June 2020, and Sept-Dec will be an important period (since more cases are expected). In March-April first results could be expected - and although there might be a very limited effect (20-30% reduction in severe covid-disease cases) I would very much prefer to take the BCG vaccine over a vaccine that has less than a year of safety results.

I did pick Tampa to win the Cup!

Of course, I said that they would meet San Jose in the final.

Yeah, not sure what I was thinking there.

To be perfectly honest, the last couple of years have been a bit hectic for Wedgie. It's very rare that I watch a non-Leafs game, and almost never a Western Conference game.

I really know nothing about nothing outside of the Leafs these days.
