We gave up Kessel to get Kap, I wouldn’t have given him up for any less. He’s a lot better then you think he is. IMO
- Garnie

Me saying it's a great trade doesn't mean I think he's crap, that was just a great return for him. And I was saying the 3rd line needed to be broken up.

Sorry but it's true. I was told Leafs have no depth because of 4 forwards for 40 million. Then the Pens pay that to play our 3rd liner on their first line.
- RogerRoeper

If their taking about our D, they’re dead on.

Wow, looks like it's already turned to autumn in France. So pretty!

Dallas is winning because of Cogliano and Perry. If only Leafs would have the ability to obtain such studs...

Oh and Leo Komorov is carrying Isles to the finals.

- RogerRoeper

Do you actually watch any hockey outside of Leafs?

Dallas success is based on a terrific defense, and on 4 good forward lines, with guys that all contribute and can all play against toplines of opposing teams.

Leafs D is mediocre, Dubas underestimated for over a year the value of a good goalie tandem, and he's bet on very mediocre FWs (Kerfoot, Johnsson, Nylander) that aren't coming through in playoffs.

The Johnsson contract is worse than Marleau's deal by Lou - Johnsson is a 3rd/4th line guy, while Marleau actually played well his first seasons.

I think it’s an ok return. I’d rather have the player myself and would have traded someone else.

which player are they going to trade then to clear enough space to fix their D.

obviously they won't trade Matthews

they'll never get equitable return for Tavares or marner..........both are ridiculously overpaid

the ONLY player they can trade, get good value for, and free up cap space is Nylander, but that basically turns them into a one line team.......and what little depth they had is gone.

- haywoodjablome

Willy isn’t “depth.”

He’s proven that he cant play C, or kill penalties.

Johnsson, Mikheyev, Marner, Matthews, Tavares, Hyman are all top 6 players. And Robertson may be close.

Leafs have no issues scoring, and they wouldn’t miss Willy. They need guys who play a heavy, sound defensive style. But like I said, absolutely no one is calling Dubas asking about Nylander.

oh and Hallander isn't a 'top end' talent.
he might pan out, or he might not even make it to NHL.
saying it's a 'great deal' (or even "pittsburgh got fleeced!") is such a Dubas-fanboy statement..

Leafs will have to move out some of their depth...just to ice a team.

He was spent most of his time in the top 2 lines.

The Leafs aren't getting any impact RFA's... to suggest otherwise is outright stupid, and ignorant of the cap, and unrealistic in practice. They need to develop the rest of their kids and get a backup goalie with the money they have.

Did you mean UFAs?

Otherwise, your post adds no value. No teams ever get impact RFAs, other than their own.

meanwhile, Tavares, Nylander, Marner, and Matthews couldn't even get the leafs into the playoffs.

40 million well spent

We’d get lots for Nylander, every team has an analytics guy....it would be easy Pickens for the Leafs.
- Garnie

The analytics guys are getting dunked on rn.

I don’t think it’s what teams are looking for now, 2-3 years ago sure.

And - Gawd, this is weird to type this - the Leafs don't need a backup goalie.

Are you sure you are in the right thread?

I’d be happy every year if we could be like Vegas has been since their inception.

Seguin’s comments last night were refreshing. The majority of players don’t give a (frank) about analytics. It’s an dying fad.
