Heiskanen / Jones / Theodore / Hedman / Hughes / Ellis / just off the top of my head that are clearly better. Maybe even Reilly ..
4th best .. hell no..
- dozerD10
Hughes, Ellis, Theadore, Hieskanen?
Please.
Tell me how they are better. Dont bring in age to any factors either, that is not the argument. |

I still don't think he will and I have been searching the internet daily for any pictures of Pietrangelo with Maple Leafs bed sheets.... No luck - PatC80
Meh... it's possible he might not but every day that passes and he doesn't re-sign with the Blues is a clear(er) indication he's going to go somewhere else. What teams out there are as desperate to dole out a 7 year deal in the neighborhood of 8-8.5M in this economic climate?
His wife is from St. Louis and likely wants to remain there... but if St. Louis can't come to terms, he grew up just north of Toronto so he's a hometown boy.
Leafs can easily make some moves to clear cap space to bring Petro into the fold. Maybe Nylander gets moved to make room? Who cares! Petro's value is orders of magnitude > BillNy. |

Jones/Hedman for sure. The rest maybe in a year or 2.. - PatC80
Notice how I didn't bold Jones/Hedman?
Having said that, I would rather have Jones because of his age... but Petro is better at the moment. |

If they get Petro and move out Willy I'd want a young forward to replace him.
Was wondering if a deal could be made for Petro's rights and have Nylander and Thomas involved in the trade... |

I'd say he's the 4th best and as an all around D he is number 2 behind Hedman. |

Wonder what that package might look like. St. Louis's 1st would have to be in play and a guy like Barbashev would be a nice pickup. |

You know how psychologists say the minute you say but...everything after that doesn’t matter...
Age absolutely factors into my assessment..
Older players get injured easier and more often although Petro has a very good track record of playing 78+ games a year..
Besides that those guys are better skaters.. More mobile and to my eyes play better defense all around...
Giving multiple years of big money to a guy that’s going to be 31 is not very good use of money in a flat cap World...
The Blues won the cup because of ROR & Bennington.. not Petro.. |

Nylander
Engvall
mid draft pick
Petro
Thomas
Blias
1st
Blias adds physicality where Engvall brings the Blues speed. |

Very wrong.
Petro has been the backbone of that D core for his entire career. He is an elite D and his stats line up with the top 5 D in the league.
you aren't giving him credit here which is weird because all of the hockey world gives it to him...until he is a leaf |

He’s a very good D man.. top10 in the league probably top 3 RHD which the Leafs need...
to me not it’s not smart Mangmnt to give big money to a 31 yr old.. you’re buying all his downside years... |

Elite D have larger prime years
Thought us leaf fans would learn that for making fun of the Habs with Weber |

Pietrangelo doesn't play a physical game so he will likely age well. He's like a cerebral assassin. |

Obviously can't speak to your situation; but Pietrangelo's wife had tripletts and a husband who was gone for weeks at a time on road trips for work. Pretty much everything in St. Louis has painted her parents as being relatively involved and helping out. There was a decent number of stories about it (for St. Louis hockey media, anyways) because of the fact she had some miscarriages before hand followed by the rarity of having tripletts. They just added a fourth on Saturday. Which could help their desire to stay in St. Louis (I just had another infant, how could we leave my parents when they helped so much!) or hurt it (Wow, this is so much easier when it's one newborn at a time instead of three, we'll be fine wherever!) lol. - Antilles
You have presented the case really well.
Sometimes, life determines the outcome in favour of the obvious.
I explained the situation to Mrs. Spatso and asked her what would be right.
She said, "if he is a good person, he will want to stay in St. Louis. Not because it is the right thing for his family, but because he will know it is the right thing for him to do."

He should at least consider signing with the Leafs. |
