Nah, he actually isn't. The majority of top tier D are still very effective up to and beyond 35.

Goal scoring tends to decline at 30 but defense usually is the same and sometimes better.

If the Leafs found it necessary to sign Tavares long term past 30, signing Pietrangelo is a no-brainer.

Just a huge cap hit. And Chara is the best UFA signing in NHL history imo.

I haven’t watched many of the Dallas games so I’m wondering what is going on with Seguin. Playing hurt?

Not that huge considering Nylander, Johnsson and Kerfoot make 14+ million combined.

If they get traded for top prospects and draft picks, you have cheap ELC players to fill the gaps and put more money where it belongs; on defense.

Interesting fact: Pietrangelo has missed only 34 games since his first full season (2010-2011).

The guy stays healthy and is still an elite D at 30.

He’s played over 19 mins so far tonight. He’s never really been a playoff performer. 40 points in 81 games.

For Nylander? Should be an easy sell. Most of his contract is paid, he's a 30 goal scorer with potential to be even better and his cap hit isn't ridiculous.

If they could get 15th overall for Kapanen (absolutely moronic trade by the way), they can definitely get a reasonable haul for Nylander.

Johnsson is a 20 goal scorer so he could probably get you a similar depth prospect. I'd honestly be fine with Marcus Foligno, goal scoring be damned and just have a guy who hammers the other team in the bottom six.

Kerfoot is poop so just dumping him would be fine and finalizing the disaster that was the Kadri trade.

But...

Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Rielly and Pietrangelo.

Considering you have to beat Tampa Bay every year, it's a necessary evil.

For anyone thinking of replacing Andersen with Lehner, you're insane.

Also, Leafs should have signed Corey Perry,

Also, Tampa Bay is going to wreck the Stars.

1000% the type of player the Leafs need more of. At 1 million a year, who cares what he does in the regular season because he's an animal in the playoffs. That's the big difference between a soft stiff like Spezza and Perry. One guy use to be a winner and when the time is right, he's there to do it again.
