Other than maybe bumping up MAF, but that’s rather pedantic and frankly I’m not his biggest fan as he helped Pitt win Cups, I totally agree with you. Goalies in the 1st are a risk, and they take years And years of grooming. If you want a guy fresh out of the box, and this particular draft looks full of them, you don’t look at a goalie.

The teams who can groom a goalie in the first already will be picking towards the bottom, and they have a netminder for now. Meanwhile the teams picking up top should be focusing on all these potential stud forwards and defensemen out there.

Carolina’s window is opening fast. Really fast. Askarov might be good for them, but they should honestly go for one of these FAs that can be had immediately.

Jersey has Blackwood, and they’ve put time into this up-and-comer. Askarov would be starting anew.

For this reason, I could see Askarov slide to the 2nd round. At that point, teams will be frothing over him. He’ll be a great get there. Then I could see Carolina, Toronto, or a myriad of other franchises decide that this is the time to strike.

Perfectly fine franchise goalies are found in other rounds.

Even if Askarov gets picked up in round 1, he won’t play this year, and I’m willing to bet Two other rookies (technically) in Shesty or Sorokin are better even if Askarov does get a shot. Why? Because they had time to mature!

I’m really not sure any team up top can afford to miss out at the high profiled rookies where they sit, and I’m not sure how many teams at the bottom want to use their #1 when they already have an established goaltender.

Askarov falls to early 2nd round where he belongs.

If he falls to 2nd round I'll close my account. He's more likely to go top 10 then fall out. This is a pretty bad take.

Spencer Knight went 13th last season. Askarov is getting more hype than he did. There's no way he's falling to the second round. Carolina would likely pick him at #13.

With three first round picks the Devils alone are unlikely to let him out if the first round. But we won’t take him with #7 and expect him to be gone before #18 and #20 picks come up.

Yeah I'm expecting Askarov to be drafted somewhere in the 10-13 range.

13, 14, or 15 IMO. CAR EDM &TML can all use franchise goaltenders.

If you think Konovalov is close to ready, or close to Askarov you need to finish that puff and pass.

Askarov is being compared to Price and Vasilevski with his demeanor and upside. Konovalov is compared to Bobrovky or Samsonov. No slouches, but not close to Price or Vasi.

I would use a 1st. This year I would use a 4th. That's right, Red Wings grabbing their goalie just in time for them to have a great lineup and become cup contenders again. Bad contracts are starting to go away this year which will have the lineup improving all over the ice, which will be enough to entice some too flight talent to join a young crew that will be challenging for the cup like the Bolts have been for years. WOO BABY!!!! don't care what about what anyone else hasta say, you take a chance no matter who you pick and with elite goalies not falling from the trees ain't no reason to take a chance on any other position when I guy like this comes around. Row row row your boat, come on Stevie with my dream. Merrily merrily merrily merrily, Askarovs the missing piece. GO WINGS
