unless Gallagher asks for something stupid like 10M per, there's really nothing MB could say. pay the man, he deserved it, and deserved it again.

Thank you

Thing is, there’s no way he’ll be good come year number 7 or 8 but as I say, he’s the heart and soul of the team so I think they NEED to sign him. I’m pretty sure Bergevin sees it this way as well from the way he spoke tonight. You won’t see me want to kill MB if he gives him 8 years but it would probably be better for the team to be able to keep it to 6.

year 7 or 8? year 4. heart and soul yes but 4 good years at his level left in the tank. sign him to 5 tops

*sigh*

I mean in a near future, it's not like the cupboard was completely empty and they were lightyears away of having a decent team

Still stumbling around in year 9 of MB's 5 year plan, pardon, 5 year plan.

Oh, I know. I agree with you that he'll be battered and not great (most likely) by years 6,7,8... But term gives him security, something not a lot of us have, especially now. By making a lot of the money on the contact signing bonuses, Montreal pays him early, pays him for his service what he's worth early, when he's deserving of that money. Less salary later on, but palatable to all parties if he's on LTIR. If he's ok with us moving just the contract, ala Datsyuk, it's great for teams looking to hit the floor, but not pay out much salary. Just saying.

I'm thinking he's a smart enough player to adjust his game when he needs to and still have a positive impact on the team. you can't rely on his 30 goals forever, but I don't see him "falling off a cliff" like many are saying

See this is where Covid might screw things up, I think the players will have to put more money in escrow for the next few seasons, a higher percentage of a higher salary would be annoying for him...

It takes time to get into the flow here. Yeah, we're not always on topic... But when you troll in every instance where we're not, you're not going to be well recieved. Took me years to get into really chatting here. But a good bunch once you just let go. Just don't expect us all to love you from word 1.

when you say "he's no Markov", you mean Markov was more important to the team than Gallagher is?

Nobody knows what the future holds for Gallagher. To guess he's going to wither and be useless just isn't reasonable. People said he couldn't play his game for more than a few years since he started... Proved them wrong, too.
