The rumors on Brodin was he was looking at Suter/Spurgeon money, so in excess of $7.5 mil. And it's not really a stretch for Guerin to say that he is keeping all 4 Dmen as well when dealing with the Seattle expansion draft. Keeping 8 skaters would allow them to keep all 4 dmen. And, if you really look at the roster, are there really more than 4 forwards that would be difficult to replace from the Wild's roster?

Basically, Guerin has just said "come to me with your best offer for Dumba, or don't call" to the entire NHL. We all knew that Brodin was going to be staying in MN and that Dumba was the better of the trade chips.

If you can only protect 4 forwards and you have to protect Parise & Zuccarello that leaves one of Kunin, Greenway or Fiala available so thats not nothing.

Pat Laine has his eyes on Buffalo. They are making inches on Al Pietrangelo, Tor Krug, Tay Hall, and Ty Toffoli. If they add all of them, then Pat Laine will follow because he wants to win. Ras Ristolainen is probably the guy headed back to Winnipeg, but more will be needed.

I can sort of understand Bjug since it is just a $2M gamble that he can stay healthy and be flipped at the deadline for a 2nd or 3rd.

This trade, however, makes ZERO sense. Staal is a much better player, he is a center, he makes less money, and he doesn't have a history of injuries.

I would have traded McCann for Staal straight up. The only saving grace for JR is if Eric refused a trade to the Pens, which I could see as a potential scenario. But the Pens aside, surely there was a better offer out there than Johansson.

But is Mike Hoffman still a power forward?!?!?

Hey Ek. Isn't Guerin's timing really awful? If he was trying to discuss a Dumba trade last week, he was in a strong bargaining position as he could always bluff and say that he'll just keep Dumba and maybe hang up the phone to talk to team X about trading for Brodin instead.

Now that he handed Brodin a NMC, the other 30 GMs basically know he has to move Dumba. Guerin lost all of his leverage. The low-ball offers will commence.

Surprised you and your sources think this is such a great move. He should have made a handshake deal with Brodin to announce this after he extracts max value in a Dumba trade. But I also think Guerin is a fool, whereas we know you love him.
