Flyers did the same with Hayes, Streit, and Bryz.
- jmatchett383

Those were just picks though.

In this way it would be a 7 million cap hit for basically nothing if they player walks.

IMO, if this team is going to materially improve in the short term, then moving JVR should be Fletcher's #1 priority. It will require some creativity and sacrificing assets that could be used to the improve the team long term (draft picks). No team wants him & that cap hit. The Flyers are not getting anything of value in return for just JVR.

There is a simple test. Reverse the trade and ask yourself if you make that deal for your team.

Honestly I don't know.

I might if I was getting maybe a pick or prospect too. There would probably be other pieces but i might.

I am not a JVR hater. I;m not sure he fits the Flyers though.

Some suggested JVR for Kessel. Straight up.

Yeah, think I saw that one. I don't read these boards everyday, but I've seen a lot of the proposed JVR trades over the past week or two. I've kept quite, hoping they'd just fizzle out and stop, but sheesh.

The Ghost ones are pretty rich too, but I don't want to go there

Everyone knows why the Flyers might want to do something along those lines but you still haven't answered why Columbus would? Why don't you want to keep JVR?
- MJL

Didn't JVR score right behind Coots at 5V5 this past season, weren't his possession #'s also pretty good? I know he can be a D liability and the 7 mil is an albatross but letting him go with no plan to replace the goals doesn't make much sense. I mean if you can trade him and have a plan to replace sure, go ahead. I think it will be extremely difficult to find a trade partner, most all teams have issues

On a lighter note, man, I wish Ed Snider was still around to at least witness the beginning of the Carter Hart era. Damn, he would have been so proud. Miss you dude.

He would’ve had that pick traded for the corpse of a stay at home defenseman.

JVR played well for the most part in the regular season but I think it's a pretty strong possibility that the player and the contract does not age well. In the current cap environment, teams are going to be very reluctant to take on long term deals.

Enigmatic comment in the Athletic today:

"I don’t think it’s fair to say management doesn’t want star power. Every organization would like to add impact players, and the Flyers are no different. It’s not like they didn’t check in on Artemi Panarin and John Tavares — it’s just that neither had interest in signing with Philadelphia. In free agency, there’s not much you can do if the player doesn’t want to sign with you."

Note that this suggests that it was not a $ issue; rather, the players did not want to sign with the Flyers.

In the case of Panarin, it was widely reported that that Flyers made a big push and failed. In the case of Tavares, he talked with the Leafs, Boston, Sharks, Stars, Lightning and Bruins. Most of the teams on Tavares' list are good ones.

Why didn't the guys wanna come to Philly? Is it possible that the Flyers long and steadfast commitment to mediocrity has finally overcome its reputation as a place free-agents want to come to?

To move JVR I think you’re either going to have to pair him with something enticing enough to make a team take him or more likely take back a worse contract with less term.

The flyers organization has been irrelevant for a a decade now. Have been at best a average team. Money is pretty much equal all around. Lets be honest Philly is a poophole, and yes many live in jersey I get it.

I’m not sure bedsheets boy is the best example to use. He used the market to milk every penny out of the team he intended on signing with from the start.

You're back again!

Why would you post such stupidity? Was Kevin Hayes not a top UFA last off season? Are you not intelligent to sniff out someone who has an obvious agenda? Every year there are top free agents who want to play in certain towns for whatever reason. Doesn't mean that other teams are places that free agents don't want to play for.

Funny, I would have thought that more teams than only Philadelphia and New York would have been interested in Panarin, and that more than 7 teams would have liked to talk to Tavares.

Tavares was going to sign with anyone other than the Isles in the Metro out of respect for the Islanders. He literally stated that. I am not sure why Panarin decided to not come here or seemingly not even entertain the notion.

It was pretty well known that Tavares wanted to play for his hometown Leafs.

Panarin wanted the New York Spotlight.

What did you like about his take? He gave zero insight to the game, his insight was mayfield blows.

Mayfield blows. Pretty much sums it up. Over rated. 6 points in nfl is a lot. Go with burrow to cover that
