Anyone with half a brain takes the Leafs over them going forward.

Wonder if barzal gets an offersheet?

how much is Barzal, Pulock and Toews going to cost?
and who is the Isls bad contract they would want to move out?

- senstroll

7 players to sign with 9 mill to the cap. Going to be interesting.

And they aren't the Leafs where they can trade a 3rd line winger at the drop of a hat. There are 5-7 deals they simply can't move.

They are without a doubt in the worst cap hell.

So many to choose from. They'll have to buy-out 1 IMO. Komorov's deal has to somehow disappear. There's also Ladd.

At this moment 100% true.

The goal is to win a cup, not win a round or 2. They can't improve.

Apparently Leo is amazing to have, even when he's scratched. At least people tell me that. Meanwhile Lou wants and needs him gone.

I am not even a fan of the Isles and I know this is totally wrong. Any team can improve.

interesting take - especially after your takes on 'Dubas being a genius GM'.

Of course Islanders can improve.
And being a top4 team in NHL this season, one could argue that obviously there is less space /need for them to improve vs Leafs - a team that didn't make the playoffs this season.

They were a top 4 team during the playoffs. They may have missed them alltogether if not for the shutdown. They had lost 7 in a row at that point.

Islanders have so many core player about to pass their primes with long-term deals. Will Eberle, Nelson, Lee, Pageau get better?

And yes, there is a need for more cap space than the Leafs. Isles have 3 RFAs who's cap hits are about to skyrocket, including Barzal. Are you not taking that into consideration?

Trust me, if Barzal was on the Leafs the media would already have him on a plane about to pick which offersheet he wanted.

Lou locked-up no gamebreakers and aging grinders on long-term deals before he locked-up the young players that are more important.

Lightning are in a different situation though. They have a lot of players other teams badly want and can easily clear cap space. Islanders don't. No one wants their overpaid bottom 6 players.

That's where the big Leaf bonuses increase the value of their players. Teams are lining-up to acquire Andersen, who was dog poop this year.

Islanders fans are not realistic. You can't move those deals.

Apparently trading players is so easy on 30 NHL teams LOL.

But let's go back to how MItch Marner at age 23 and proven 90+ point forward is impossible to move!

if they cant trade ladd somehow (doubtful), they might as well buy him out..saves 700k for the same 3 years...the cap for the next 3 is nothing

Islanders are (frank)ed. They needed to win that cup, There's no other chances. Nelson and Lee are both 30 now. 5 and 6 years remaining...

And Pageau is a 30 point forward who had a flukey season in a contract year.

Moving those deals is even tougher with COVID. No team will eat real money.
