Toews being younger would have more value. Toews should not be an untouchable player for sure.
- ses111

Now I'm honestly not sure who has more value. A few weeks ago I'd probably have said Toews for that reason + the fact that he's an RFA and will likely sign for cheaper than Leddy's current deal. But Leddy is a real good defenseman and $5.5M is still a pretty decent bargain for what he brings and there's only two years left on his deal.

Obviously the trade worked out terrible for Calgary, but I don't see any reason why Leddy shouldn't be worth a similar return to Hamonic. Cap issues across the league will likely keep the value down a bit but if Leddy is available he'll probably be relatively sought-after by teams that need a top-4 LHD.

Really had to like the Isles chances in a game 7 if they pulled that game off last night. Just do not have a good feeling when Nelson did not score and not coming through on the PP clinched it.
- ses111

They have to figure out the PP quickly. They had so many chances in the series to change the momentum of a game and they failed miserably nearly every single time.

Yep! Isles changed coaches and that has not worked. I still think it's too many passers and not enough shooters. Do you see any possible changes to the top 6 forwards? Probably would not be easy.

Top-6? No, unless they decide to move on from Bailey. Not saying they will or suggesting that they should, but he's another guy whose trade value likely will never be higher than it is right now after his playoff performance.

The third line could use some tinkering. Rolling Pageau with shitheaps like Komarov on a regular basis is, honestly, a waste of Pageau's talent and what it cost to acquire/sign him. There's no shortage of options of ways to change that line.

They could acquire someone like Palmieri and play him with Pageau and then either re-sign Brassard or promote someone like Bellows.

They could really shock everyone and go hard after Mike Hoffman. He's good defensively and shoots the hell out of the puck. He'd mesh with Pageau at ES and be a big upgrade to the PP. Not sure what that relationship is like after the circus in OTT with Hoffman/Karlsson though.

Buying out Komarov saves them just over $900k in the upcoming season and approx $1.5M the season after before costing them $500k/yr for the two seasons after that.

Cannot see Bailey being moved but you figure he has value after these playoffs. Hopefully Beau find more consistency. I posted the other day Leo's time as an every game player needs to end and he needs to be an extra forward. Bellows really needs a long look with Pageau. Lou and Barry must work more young players into the lineup. Hoffman would be the shooter the Isles need. You see him on the 3rd line with Pageua?

They're probably going to have to at some point, because the cap will get tight. I figure Wahlstrom probably has to, at the very least, start the season in Bridgeport. If he is scoring consistently and playing the way they want him too I'm sure they could find a spot for him in the lineup. Otherwise another season developing wouldn't be a travesty.

If one of Toews/Leddy are moved, I'd really like to explore bringing Greene back for another season. He was fantastic and would be an excellent 3rd pairing guy. Have to imagine he wants to stay in the area since his family probably has pretty deep roots in NJ. Dobson can start in Bridgeport and move back and forth as needed. I'm curious what's going on with Hickey and if he'll be an option moving forward or if he still has health issues.

Can confirm it was a detached retina for #Isles Casey Cizikas. He had surgery on Monday and the expected recovery period is 6 weeks.

What a warrior.

I would not mind Wahlstrom getting more time in Bridge but I'm not sure Thompson is the right coach? Cannot believe Lou did not bring in another coach when he was hired. I like the idea of brining back Greene for another year playing him on the 3rd pair with Dobson. Toews and Mayfield 2nd pair and Pulock and Pelech 1st pair and Boychuk the extra dman.

Can you imagine he made that insane pass to Bailey with a Detached retina.. the one that Bailey put over the glass when he tried to life it in game 4.

Varly did everything he could.
- ses111

Varly was incredible and if you watched the Vegas / Dallas series I don't think anyone should bring up Lehner should have been signed anymore. We signed Varly b/c our Goalie coaches (who are the best in the business) wanted him for 2 years and it was going to help get Sorokin over here.. which it did.

And after that performance it was certainly the right move.

I had no issue with what went down with Robin. Thought he should have taken the two year deal from the Isles. Isles should be fine in goal. It's all going to come down to figuring out how to score enough goals against elite teams like Tampa and still playing solid defense.

Been saying this from day 1. Give up 2 picks for Pags and sign him long term to play on a fluff line. Insane.

I can't see how the Isles sign anyone new without moving some cap, which will be mighty hard without picks to sweeten the deals. Why sign anyone? We have all we need in the minors. Time to slide them in full time and see what they can do under the guidance of a NHL coaching staff.....but cap space first. Signing Barzal, Toews and Pulock will take all the space they have if they don't retain any other UF/RF's.

Other than Game 1 Tampa scored as many PP goals in the series as The Islanders. ONE.
Should Tampa change up their PP too? They had 2, 4 minute penalties two games in a row to clinch the series in OT and didn’t score.
I think the Isles PP scored in the previous series as did Tampa’s. I think we need to give both teams staff and PK execution some credit here.

Why bother reading this poop? Leafs play exciting and lose as donother teams, when a coach says the isles play a team game better than anyone in the league well that tells you what you need to know

Isles were very entertaining these playoffs. One thing they need to improve on is having the defense join the attack. Too many times against Tampa they were only relying on the forwards. Isles looked better last night when the defense was joining in the attack.

Tampa had a top-5 PP during the season

The Islanders PP was 8th worst

So no, Tampa shouldn't change anything up. That's a pretty obvious answer.

A have a little more confidence in Barry over Cappy and Doug. Just a little.

Again just using the 3 forwards to try to score against a team like Tampa is going to be tough. Philly almost beat the Isles with getting the D involved and throwing pucks at the net for deflections.

I think 7's point is that the PP improved during the playoffs when it really counts. Having said that, yeah, there were times when it was hard to watch the PP, even in the playoffs. Their inability to set up in the o-zone on the PP was so obvious, that even the idiot commentators noticed it, and questioned why Barzal kept trying to skate the puck through the Tampa defenders at the blue line, instead of chipping and chasing.

The Islanders' PP% was 16th out of 24 teams in the playoffs this year, at 15.4%

That's worse than their regular season PP% which was already bad. If they finished the regular season with that PP% it would have been the 5th worst in the league

That was frustrating seeing Barzal trying to skate though 4 players instead of dumping it in. PP was better earlier in the playoffs but failed when really needed against Tampa and in that overtime.
