Eddie the Beagle! I remember when the Wings signed Cujo after Hasek retired the first time. Yzerman, Hull and Chelios pleaded with Holland to sign Belfour instead. Belfour played much better for the Leafs than Cujo did for the Wings. Mind you it wasn't Cujo's fault the Wings couldn't score in the playoffs when he was there. The Dave Lewis years. 🤮 |

Best Leafs defensive roster in a season (that some of you may have actually watched)
Todd Gill
Dave Ellett
Bob Rouse
Sylvan Lefebvre
Jamie Macoun
Dmitri Mironov - Woderwick
Oh yeah, that was good. Sylvan Lefebvre was one the most underrated players of his time. Sooo good. I didn't mind the next group, either, that had Dmitri Yushkevich and Danny Markov. Both of those guys were tough as nails, worked their asses off, and Markov was batpoop crazy in a good way out there. A couple of Russians that competed hard every night. From there it was a slide into Kabs and 'Caber. Pat Quinn's trade of Jason Smith to Edmonton for a bag of pucks, where he became captain, always pissed me off. As did the Leafs giving up on Stralman so early. Decent career for that guy to say the least. |

My wild guess is he wanted less money early, more money later.
I can't see the Leafs having a problem with that. - Atomic Wedgie
Financially, no but the problem with back end loading payments for older players with long contracts is that it gets hard to move someone who’s got a big balloon payment coming up.
This little switch in the new CBA does take away the advantage of front end loading and kind of screws the Leafs and I’m shocked |

Guy tried so hard to win a cup and went to Detroit to do it and won squat. Although I didn't realize his deal with Detroit was 8 million a year for 3 years! Pre-cap was nuts!

Yeah Cujo played 2 years with the Wings. They were lucky that contracts were tolled during the lockout season so they didn't have to pay him the 3rd year. I still remember Mike Ilitch writing Derian Hatcher a $10 million cheque to go away (buyout). |

Well damn, I have a problem with that. The whole Leaf advantage is that they can payout money upfront and trade the contract to a cash strapped team later on. A back-loaded contract with a NMC would be a killer if his play goes down hill later in the deal.

Probably more middle-loading than back end loading. |

I can see it as a big problem more money later means untradeable contract when he's declining. |

Qantas Airlines has started offering “flights to nowhere”. People pay just to fly around Australia and come back to home airport without landing. First flight sold out in 10 minutes.

In Canadian news, seats on flights to Winnipeg still available. |

As per above, it would be big money in years 3 and 4.
With a huge signing bonus on day 1 of year 4, it means you only need three years before you could trade him. |

But why would that be a problem for the Blues? I’m sure Pridholm has ideas on how to use financial advantage to craft a better deal. |

I don't know why anybody would want big money later, they lose out on a lot of earning potential, my guess is he wanted it early and the Blues can't afford to go that route because of limited income. |

They idea is that your salary is going to be clawed back for the next few years due to revenue sharing. Players may lose up to 50% of their salaries next year. |
