I don't know why anybody would want big money later, they lose out on a lot of earning potential, my guess is he wanted it early and the Blues can't afford to go that route because of limited income.

Look at Brodin's new deal:

I know MLSE has a lot of money...but aren't they also in a position to lose a (frank) ton of money because they have four sports teams that can't sell tickets right now? Other than Petro jerseys, what is their source of income going to be? How bottomless is their demonic lucre bag?

This thinking is what gets the Leafs in trouble. (Hello Marner)

Preferential structure for the player should mean a lower cap hit for the team. It always seems to be all give and no take when it comes to the Leafs.

The Wild probably wanted it that way to save $ now.

Blues probably want the same.

But why would that be a problem for the Blues? I’m sure Pridholm has ideas on how to use financial advantage to craft a better deal.

Your guess is as good as mine.

The hope is that they are not as concerned about a short term deficit, as long as overall franchise valuation continues to skyrocket.

True. They still have the golden goose, even if it doesn't poop out eggs for a couple of years.

Because one of them would naturally have to go if Pietro is signed.

We can't complain relentlessly that our defense sucks and we spend too much $$$ on forwards and then be surprised that the proposed solution is to trade some forwards to spend on defense.

JT signed for less than what other teams were offering.

I think it will help a bit but where the advantage is is in trades.

In a front loaded deal you will get more value for your player later in his contract years.

I don’t think it has too much implications in cap hit. It’s attractive for a FA for sure though as an added bonus.

From everything I have read, Brodin's camp requested it.

But yeah, Minny was probably happy to oblige.

They haven’t cut a single penny from any employees...highly doubtful they would let that get in the way of signing Petro.

They are already signing Nurse and Ujuri to huge deals.

There's also the weird synergy of them owning their own broadcast rights - so they are robbing Peter to pay Paul - but in a good way.

Strange.

But maybe it was to maximize his dollars over 7 years. Minny May have simply just not had the money to give him if they wanted to front load.

I think they’d find a way to get a cheaper forward...It would take a few trades but it can be done to better the team.

If Petro wants to sign in Tor I believe Dubas does whatever he can to make that happen.

Yup.

And bell and rogers are losing money. Not horrible. But enough to but the clamps on dubas spending money like a drunken sailor this year.

Oh yeah I don't think it'll impact them that way, I'm just curious about how much water can they take on and not start to list a little bit, because MLSE is seen as basically invulnerable financially.

Players don't want front-loaded right now, as they are going to have to give back huge portions of their salaries for the next two years due to revenue sharing and escrow.

There is that...I wonder how much they make for each home game with attendance. Such a vigorous markup on beer and hot dogs.
