Viewership plus bonus playoff viewers for Rogers
- Canada Cup

Yeah but a home viewer pays much less than someone at the game.

Strange.

But maybe it was to maximize his dollars over 7 years. Minny May have simply just not had the money to give him if they wanted to front load.

- Santo_44

With 20% escrow and a 10% deferral next year, it's in the players interest to push money out to later years.

Players don't want front-loaded right now, as they are going to have to give back huge portions of their salaries for the next two years due to revenue sharing and escrow.
- Atomic Wedgie

Ahh I see that makes sense.

Well I wonder if Petro wants max bonuses in years 3-5 then.

The media trying to decipher the negotiations between club and agent is always a shot in the dark...

Twitter however is always right. Well at least 1 of the 300M voices that is.

Yup.

And bell and rogers are losing money. Not horrible. But enough to but the clamps on dubas spending money like a drunken sailor this year.

I doubt Shanny operates on a year-to-year budget and that he’ll be pulled back to spend below the cap. My guess is that he has authority to spend to the cap on an ongoing basis, has an operating and capital budget for the whole operation that he can try to leverage for a hockey advantage.

I heard a lot of players were blown away by the amenities at SBA

Gotcha.

So the Leafs should push the sponsorship BS on Pietro hard. No clawback on sponsorship deals.

My dream would be the Leafs can sign him for 2 years with the idea he can get sponsorships in TO. Then he is coming up for renewal when the money starts flowing again at 32.

I know it won't happen - but this is fantasy land.

I think a big way the leafs could get Petro is to trade for Demko.

Gives them huge cap flexibility and could sign him with only trading AJ.

I know I know. “50 M on 5 players”

They’ll have the whole year to figure out a trade IF they need to regarding Marner or Nylander plus the longer they wait the more value their deals have due to their structure.

The Wild probably wanted it that way to save $ now.

Blues probably want the same.

- Santo_44

from what i read brodins camp wanted it.
Less escrow the next few years.

But im sure Minnie was very open to it as well

Makes sense now.

I didn’t account for the escrow the next few years.

407 new cases in Ontario today.

Offer AP a contract which pays him league minimum this yeat, because I am becoming more and more pessimistic about next season.

According to Strickland, who’s more of a STL reporter, Blues are pushing back on the idea that they are lowballing AP and that they still hope to get a deal.

If that’s true, agent is playing serious hardball.

Any chance Pietrangelo's agent is the same guy Marner has?

Don't worry. The beard thing has almost had its day as a hipster-signal. It'll be long hair in a ponytail or some other poop very soon.

Two thirds under 40. Kids girlfriend just quit her job in a restaurant downtown after a couple of staff tested positive. Her test just came back negative. She just started a one year Masters that’s all online and has a part time data entry gig lined up.

He’s working from home and they’ve decided to hunker down as Fauci puts it.

Not entirely accurate - have to consider how much escrow is going to be lost in each year.

For simplicity using a 5% discount rate the net present value of $43 million paid out as follows (about $8.5M x 5)
Year 1 - 39M , Yr 2 - 1M, Yr 3 - 1M, Yr 4 1M, Yr 5 1M, NPV = $44.4 Million approx
Paid out with bonus at the back end
Yr 1 - 1M, Yr 2 - 1M, Yr 3 - 1M, Yr 4 - 1M, Yr 5 - 39M, NPV = $34 Million approx

Therefore even at a small discount rate of 5% a player stands to lose $10 million with a back end loaded deal. It may be worth structuring in a way that the bonuses are paid in the second year when return to gate receipts may be anticipated.

I just cut 12-14 inches of hair off. Was tired of finding yesterday’s lunch. I’ve always worn it long even working for government. (There was a smart guy who worked at Finance and ran the budget process who had long hair and ponytail. Everyone said, he’s really smart, he can get away with it. Not being as smart I just let my hair grow long so that everyone thought I must be smart.)
