You have to be making this crap up. Kovy wouldn't come back to NJ when he came back into this league. Besides the baggage there is no reason for this team to sign a washed up 37 year old while we are in the middle of a decade long rebuild.
If Recchi thinks this is a good idea he's an idiot.

I've also read multiple places saying MTL no longer has interest in kovy.
NJ would probably also be the last team to be interested after what Kovy did to them. |

Can NJ sign him to occupy cap space and then bench him for the rest of his career? |

Eklund: New Jersey Makes a Push to Bring Back Kovalchuk. Habs Want Him. Buzz@1 - Eklund
Kovalchuk can sign with the Habs and Devils. Double headers are happening. Play 1 game with the Habs and 1 game with the Devils.
Take me out to the Habs game
Take me out there's no crowd
Buy me some Bruins with no Pastrnak
I don't care if the Nords never come back!
Cuz it's root root for Max Domi's team
If the the Devils don't win it's a shame
For its 1 2 3 strikes you're out at the old Kovy game! |

Kovalchuk might do OK in the morning games, but by the double-header evening game his old legs can't keep up. Bad idea.
Any other cool roomerz? |

Time for some Kelly Buchbergers we picked up at Lanny McDonalds, have to wash it down with some Eddy Beers. It was a long walk up the Sean hill and our faces were Wade Redden from the cold, we did burn a little Bob Gassoff. We got to the Richard Park at the top of the Sean Hill. It was a Brett Hull of a long way and it was so cold we Brad May have wished for some Colin Campbell soup instead. |

I'll believe it when I see it, first of all.
I think this is a pretty useless move, tbh. The only benefit I see is the Devils young forwards learning from Kovy. But the kids can also learn from Palmieri, Zajac, and.. well those are all the veterans haha
Kovy is slow, and doesn't fit the rebuild. Most fans, from what I've seen, don't like the guy.. so I don't think it puts butts in the seats (if we'll even have fans at games). He'd also be taking away a roster spot from a prospect that could actually use the year to develop as the Devils try to build to become a good team someday.
Right now, I see the lineup looking something like this:
Boqvist-Hischier-Palmieri
Bratt-Zacha-Gusev
Wood-Hughes-Merkley
Kuokkanen-Zajac-Anderson
obviously rotate players around as needed. Keeping in mind, this lineup doesn't include this year's 1st round pick, which could be Holtz or Raymond. I'm not sure if either would be available to play this season? This also doesn't include Foote, who may or may not be ready. Kuokkanen also may/may not be ready, but Boqvist looked good last season and I think is ready to take the next step. He always seemed smart and steady.. a good fit for any line really.
Yes, there could be room for Kovalchuk.. but he's so old and I'm not sure he provides much value. Maybe for mentoring/teaching the kids? |

IF Recchi thinks this is a good idea.. it doesn't really surprise me. Recchi never came across to me as a smart guy behind the bench (not a dumb guy either..). We don't have much evidence either way of him. If he's an idiot, it'll just be par for the course for the Devils management. I do think Pitt's PP would've excelled regardless of who was behind the bench. Notice when Kessel left how much their PP fell off. Same when Malkin was hurt. They had Malkin, Crosby, Letang, Kessel.. you're PP is gona be dynamite regardless of who's coaching it. |

He's not old. With today's nutrition and training knowledge, 37 is the new 27. Only kids think different. |

I’d imagine the NJ fan base would welcome him back with open arms after retiring and leaving millions/years on the table to go play around in the KHL... can’t see anyone thinking this is a good idea, not even the writer! |

Yeah but when you introduce doubleheaders, 27 is the new 37. |

And what would this contract value be? If this were to happen we would be talking about buying him out next year.

Dated his first cousin when I was young. We met him when he played in Halifax for the Oil farm team. Nice guy.
