So apparently Leafs players can't skate in team facilities in the summer, but Elias Pettersson can work out at Rogers Arena.
FFS, just cancel the franking rule. Let players skate wherever the frank they want. |

So we all agree the Leafs should sign Petro right? Going once... going twice... sold!
Awesome - now we can talk about other stuff! |

Exactly
Sign Pietrangelo
Get rid of Nylander and his lack of effort
Keep Freddy...and move on
Nothing to see here

Considering this was his best offensive season, and he finished fourth in Norris voting (clearly slowing down), I would like him to have a stuck in time gene. |

But some teams can't afford water cold enough to be ice in the Summer. |

10th in Hart voting (should’ve been higher), 16th in Selke voting, 2nd in Byng voting, 2nd in the Rocket race. And that moustache.
- Steven_Seagull
I agree. Easily the Leafs best player on a team full of injuries. And better than guys who ranked higher than him.
Shouldn't have won or anything but I'd say he should've been 5th-ish in voting. |

Leafs have made a few mistakes. Moving Kadri was an error.
Perhaps the decision to move out Lamerillo was premature by a year or two.
If you look at the Stanley Cup winning teams over the last few years, they are mature teams that have paid their dues. This year Dallas or Tampa will again fall into the category of a mature team.
Is it possible that the Leafs might be on verge of making a huge error because of their lack of patience?
In the current cap crunch, teams can implode if they load the top end of their roster with 4 or 5 players eating up 60% of the cap.
The Leafs failed to get through the qualifying round, essentially they missed the playoffs.
Does it make sense for a non playoff team to load up in hopes of making a strong playoff run?
Would the Leafs not be better off to proceed cautiously and make a big push at the trade deadline, if warranted. |

Ontario changed #COVID19 “case” definition Aug 6 to falsely incl immune ppl w/ IgG antibodies as “cases” in conjunction w/deeply flawed PCR tests of asymptomatic ppl w/elevated PCR cycle threshold creating up to 90% false+ “cases”
Who knows more about this??? |

If signing Petro means putting out 9 ML plus a long term 6-7 year deal at his age and getting rid of Nylander to do it I would say no dice |

I get your point but don’t forget, it’s not just getting rid of Nylander, there would be nice picks or prospects coming our way. |

1. Right idea, wrong result and unfortunate miscalculation.
2. The Zaitsev signing alone means moving Lou shipped out was the right thing to do.
3. The Leafs are one of the youngest teams in the NHL. People are quick to forget that teams are forged through experience and battle. No reason to give up on all of the young core or the direction as yet. Maybe Nylander is sacrificed to bring balance to the Force?
4. It's possible but I think not. The Leafs don't have a bad contract to speak of and I can't see them adding one in the future. We can quibble on some players being paid slightly above what maybe they should (MM by 1-1.5M?) but nothing is egregiously bad.
5. Sure, if those top 4-5 contracts are not all-star/elite players, I can buy that argument.
6. They barely missed getting out of the QR. They would have made the playoffs if it wasn't for such a (frank)ed up year.
7. The Leafs were a playoff team until COVID hit and changed the course of the season. They were barely ousted by CBJ. If they had a better top end pair, they likely go much, much further.
8. Always proceed with caution, obviously. If your implication means signing Petro is not a "cautious" move, I think you're wrong. |
