or maybe he was never that high in the first place - senstroll
I distinctly remember his draft year he was a possibility for #1 overall. Comparisons to Lidstrom (Although every Swedish defenseman is compared to Lidstrom) Eventually traded for Taylor Hall straight up.
I think his career mirrors Seth Jones pretty well - with the exception of the fact that Seth Jones became a #1 defenseman and Adam Larsson is a...4?

Kubina? It’s a very low bar. - Steven_Seagull
Ah the memories. Let me drop a quick Roger on you ....
I remember debating with The Law Sr. that summer of 2006. Leafs need to add a D that can skate and move the puck he said. He liked that Kubina guy.
I wanted some more violence ..someone that could clean up our zone. I liked that Chara guy.
I remind my Dad of that one as often as possible. |

Ottawa is not going to offer Craig Anderson a contract..
Maybe we should change plans and go with an Andersen and Anderson 1A/1B tandem.. |

I don't have a problem with Salming as a Red Wing - it was a favour to him.

Do we trade a 2nd for Petro's rights to bring his cap hit down 1M and sign him until 38?
I'll split that question up a bit.
One scenario has 7 years of a NMC and zero trade protection and only 3-4M of actual dollars on last year.
The other has full NMC the whole contract. |

That wouldn't work.
The only way the Leafs could get him on an 8-year deal would be for him to sign a contract with the Blues, and then be traded to the Leafs.
For several reasons, I don't think that is realistic. |

This reminds me of a conversation I once had with a buddy of mine who's a Colts fan. I said they should draft a kid named Peyton Manning with the #1 pick. He wanted a kid named Ryan Leaf. I still remind him of this literally every time we talk. |

Leafs can’t give him an 8 year contract (even if they traded for his rights). |

Habs gave CAR a 5th for Edmundson
it would be a sign and trade, not just getting rights
Would cost more |

Why?
If Petro gets what he cant have with the Blues? and The Blues get some comp for it? |

Sign and trades just simply don't happen in the NHL.
I could guess at a few reasons why, but at the end of the day, we are back where we started:
