but you whiffed on nylander
The problems begin obviously with two things, his play style and his defensive game. Some would call him “soft,” which is a very accurate description. This is not a player who will grind things out or you want out there when the game is on the line and you’re protecting a 1 goal lead. He’s a high octane scorer and playmaker who will dazzle with the man advantage. Sometimes he stays on the perimeter too much or hangs onto the puck looking for the perfect play rather than getting it deep. Two things that the modern NHL can punish. The potential for Nylander is so high, it truly is, but there is risk. - Tumbleweed

Actually I loved Clod. Up until he became an Avsnot. BIG game clutch player. I hated that bastard after he plastered Draper. |

And my boy Forsberg still got the U20 record - 21peter
That was probably my worst whiff ever to be honest. I didn't believe the hype. He didn't turn into what some people thought, but he turned out way better than I thought. |

23 year old 3rd (if generous)/4th liner. I dunno, spatso and Button had him in the top-5 which was what really angered me having actually seen him play. - AdamFrench
Oh I don't say he should have been a top5 player.
I agree he's a 3rd liner and that he was overvalued pre draft by some - however my point is that a team needs different types of players for different types of roles.
That"s my main issue with Nylander on the Leafs (apart from being overvalued) - Leafs have Marner Matthews Tavares, so his added value for that specific role of top6 fW who needs to bring scoring is quite low (since worse at that than the other 3) |

I'm still bitter the Red Wings didn't draft Bure. Teams passed on him because they believed he wasn't eligible due to not meeting some weird requirement. But the Canucks found out that since he played in the Goodwill games (I think it was) that he was indeed eligible to be drafted.
The Red Wings were going to take him in the later rounds anyway but the Canucks beat them to the punch. The rest as they say is history. Mogilny-Fedorov-Bure. What a WJC line that was! |

Before his knees got all screwed up Bure was the fastest guy in the league. Hence the name "The Russian Rocket."
It always seemed like he had 3 breakaways every game. Great player. 👍 |

Nylander for Max Jones, Heinen (50% retained), 27th pick - Steven_Seagull
Heinen has a caphit of 2.8mln.
He's a better player than Johnsson and Kerfoot and they are on higher caphits. Ana wouldn't retain on a good contract.
I'd rather do:
Lindholm + Heinen
For
Nylander + 15th overall
But Leafs might end up with Cam Fowler... |

Agree. I asked the question yesterday on a one for one deal. The comparable was Seth Jones. Who Columbus will not be trading. So we would come up short on any other package for sure. - Leafsmart
I would do that trade all day every day.... but the Jackets would never.
I love manson - but not sure what that would take. When Willy was RFA I was begging the leafs to trade him for Manson... Manson was 26-27 years old then and had lik 4 years left on his 4.1 deal. Now's a little trickier because they don't have many RHD like Manson and they love him. WIlly is an overpayment for manson - so try to pry away Max jones as well (London Knight when Marner was there - Big Fast Forward).
However I do like the idea of taking advantage of Arizona's situation. Try get freshly signed Kuemper out of there for Freddy + maybe. They would only have to pay Freddy a million bux this year in real money and they have a starter to replace Kuemper... I like Chychrun too whose locked up - hjarlmsson won't waive.. seems like a slam dunk. We're just adding like 4.2 to our dismal capspace as is... but at least it solves goaltending (if freddy is legit not coming back) and adding a D man (LD albeit).

It's the type of player leafs need.
3rd line wingers that can pk, bring some forecheck, isn't afraid to hit and can still contribute offensively. Could play top6 as well if required - might be a good fit on Matthews or Tavares LW.
Crouse, Heinen are guys that would help Leafs very much. - MaximusAurelius
I thought about crouse too with a kuemper deal... DEF not worth a 1st.. jeez..
I do worry about his speed. I don't watch a lot of zona hockey... but his skating is a concern... no point if he can't keep up with our forwards who all seem too be quite fleet of foot. I like him.. but I have reservations. And also not at the top of our priority list when we have Holl as our only RHD.

Because he’s not gonna get 9+ - Steven_Seagull
Let's come at it a different way. There are going to be a bunch of teams going after him. If we want to be competitive on $s it is going to cost. It doesn't look like the structure of the deal is an advantage for the Leafs although one of their smart guys might be able to find a way to give him what he wants without a big cap problem.
If we can't outbid everyone, we better hope Kyle has a great presentation lined up or that he's prepared to leave $ on the table to be here. That's not impossible but my psyche is fragile and I don't want to hurt people. Again. |
